WOOT! 5/5 for the seramas! Looks like I got 3 little blacks and two mottleds!
I only have 1 ameraucana out of all nineteen eggs :(.... does this mean I get the prize for best AND worst hatch?
I also got a little chocolate colored mystery chick. Those broodies sure are good at sneaking eggs...
Glad to hear everyone's hatches are going pretty well so far! I'm down to five ameraucanas, five seramas, two EEs and 3 silkie eggs. Six adorable black serama fuzzy butts already out :) The rest are due over the course of the next week!
I love those chicks, chestnutridge... adorable!
Tomorrow is day six for us! I think the eggs in my bator (ameraucanas and EE's) are pretty much shot after a temp spike to 106....broody eggs are doing well though. All of the serama eggs seem to be fertile and it looks like I got 6 or 7 out of...
good idea... the lil guy's just so tiny though! Anyway I have him settled in the brooder with a stuffed elephant for now. The other egg looks like it will hatch so I'm not too worried and I can always pick up an old english chickor two from tsc if I have too :)
Update on the serama eggs- one pipped and died unfortunatly, but another managed to hatch just fine. I'm still waiting on one more egg. I hope I'm not stuck with only one serama chick because the only other chicks I have are my 3 week old bantam cochins. They'd probably crush a serama in a...
Good luck!
1hotmama, I'm right there with you....today a friend asked me how many chickens I had now and it took me a few minutes to add all the coops up! And then do I count the 3 dozen eggs in the bator and under the broodies or not?! Outsiders just can't understand the power chicken math...
I fit 6 ameraucana eggs under one broody (the one in my photo contest entry!), two under a hen who already has two clutches of serama eggs under her, and the 4 other serama eggs under a recently broody serama! I borrowed my neighbor's hovabator and if all goes well I can set the rest of the eggs...
Coop De Grille: I got them from an ebay seller....kathyleininger. She has another listing here. The seramas are from my own birds.
I might need to borrow my neighbor's bator...I don't see my two broody bantams covering nearly 3 dozen by themselves, even if some are serama eggs
The count is in! I now have 19 wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucana eggs (they were supposed to send 10 but I got 9 extras!) and 4 serama eggs! I have another 1/2 dozen already cooking...chicks by this weekend!
Sure I'll join! I'll have to set my serama eggs on the 28th though! I have wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucana eggs coming soon too :) Happy hatching, peeps :)
