And if course my crazy dahlia had gone broody in the hottest month, but right on schedule with eggs in the incubator, so she'll tend her golf balls until we're at hatch day, then hopefully take over all motherly duties She's taking care of herself really well, about an hour sometimes a bit longer break at the hottest part of the day

I'm having a hard time finding quality Swedish flower hen hatching eggs. To bring in new blood. Everything I've searched for looks wrong.

I see what your saying, they aren't all great, trust me, lol

Some of the eggs I've hatched have produced yellow legged little freaks, lol, but all my eggs from Colt and Carolina Rare Chicks have made beautiful birds this year!

Does anyone here show their orps? Do hens with leg spurs get disqualified?

Our son is bringing a gorgeous black orp hen to the 4H County Fair. Last year she won class champ as a pullet and then went on to Grand Champion out of all the chickens - even beat our blue orp cockerel!

This year thanks to molt, broodiness, rooster damage, etc, she is the best looking hen. However, she has spurs. Nope not a rooster. She's a hen.

Big Beauty & her sister (BB) both got a blue ribbons at the fair. I was hoping for class champ, but I guess there's next year. The biggest surprise was that all 5 bantams we entered won class champs and were competing against each other. Our silkie (a past grand champ) took reserve and our little Serama (named "Miss Take" because we never meant to hatch her) got Grand Champion. Even our quail did well. They got reserve and grand champ for the misc. poultry category.

Our son brought our ugly frizzle Showgirl cockerel (Dr Seuss) who was the public favorite. DS. and Dr Seuss ended up in the newspaper.
