I have a nice big river that runs through the property and the pond is ideal for mallards, the geese and any other waterfowl i could put out there. They have done so well! I started with just a pair of the tufted romans, and they hatched 9 but lost many the first night to a racoon then i caught what lived and brooded them and ended up with 2 females and a gander, I assume they will be fine all breeding together in spring? i look forward to hatching 3x more eggs

Beautiful pictures...definitely a good picture shooting day. The snow looks gorgeous.......I am NOT looking forward to snow here in Utah, but in your pictures, it looks divine!

Your birds are beautiful as well. Thanks for sharing.

Its one of my ruddy shelducks.. he lost his mate in spring so i decided to let him roam with the rest of the free rangers and he took to the geese right away, following them around like a puppy LOL he makes really cool noises too. doesnt sound like a duck! they are from asia

You must be a very proud geese and duck mama! I have a question, The river that runs through your property do your geese/ducks every leave your property? I have a nice size creek that runs through my property and was wondering if my geese/ducks end up in it if they would stay put or if I have to worry about them wandering down stream. I have a half acre pond that I am going to base my geese and ducks. I am going to free range and they will be able to get to the creek. It is about 7 acres away from the pond.

I will have a house for them to take cover in around the pond but I know the creek is going to be tempting as there are all kinds of minnows and fish in it. Don't want to hijack your thread but it seems you are the perfect person to ask.

yep, the ruddy shelduck is the exotic.

Well my rivers connected to my pond so they do go upstream fishing throughout the reeds and such... but they dont really go too far away. sometimes around the bend out of sight but they come back if i call them or whatnot. I think you should be fine. Mine are free range 24/7 i never lock them up but for the winter i will be allowing them a stall in the barn neer where i feed them to sleep in, the original pair of geese showed the rest of them were to sleep. they are smart creatures, for sure!

thanks for asking.

Maybe! theres one on bird bid for 70$ i think....but im not really all that interested in breeding those just yet
