My partner and I recently moved to Missouri in 2020 and finally just started our chicken family this year in 2022.
As of right now, we have our first 12 chickens: 2 cream legbars, 4 easter eggers, 3 speckled sussex, and 3 splash-laced red wyandottes.
We turned (are still turning) an extra, old...
At the moment, we belive that we have 2 pure-bred light Sussex chooks (a rooster & a hen) but the other 2 concern us. We are fairly sure that They are a Sussex (not sure what specific type) cross with an Easter egger. Any thoughts?
they are both hens

I read online that crossing a brown egger with blue egger with create a olive egger and Speckled Sussex lay light brown eggs so I was wondering if crossing them with a blue egger would create the expected outcome by what I've read. If anyone on here has done it pictures of the cross would be...
I bought these 3 chicks from a guy who hatched his own eggs and also buys eggs from hatchery and hatched them. They are all supposed to be speckled Sussex, and the guy spent a good 15 minutes staring into his brooder trying to figure out which chicks were speckled Sussex. He did have a list of...
Was pretty suspicious of this guy when he was only about 2 weeks of age. Posted here before when he was ~3-4 weeks.
He’s now 5 1/2 weeks and I don’t think there’s any doubt left that he’s a cockerel! Still wanted to check in and have a few second opinions again now that he’s older (just in...
Hello! I have 3 extra female-sexed specked Sussex chicks from my latest hatch that haven’t sold yet. $12 each. If anyone lives in California and would like to pick some up, they’re available once this posting goes live first come first served! I will update this posting when they are all gone...
My speckled sussex is a little over a year old and I am almost positive she has never laid an egg. It wasn’t until 2 or 3 months ago that she started turning red but she is nowhere near as bright as my other hens.
Recently when outside and I’m by the run she will come to a corner near me and...

I have a Speckled Sussex hen that likes to jump onto (and sometimes sit on) my back. Is this normal and should I keep letter her do it? I think of it as a way to bond.. but sometimes she does it when I don't expect!
We have a small homestead/farm in New Hampshire (US).
We have 13 laying hens we got last year and a RIR rooster ("Sam") that sired 35 RIR and RIR/PBR chicks with them this year. Those incubator-born birds are about 3 months old now. We lost four of those early on, and about 7 of the 55 total...
Hello, I have a 10 day old Speckled Sussex chick and I was wondering if anyone can help me sex it. I know that it is possibly too early to tell, but does anyone have an idea?
I ordered 4 chicks from MyPetChicken.com and I loved the chicks I received. I bought four-1 day old chicks that I’ve wanted for awhile now: a SLWyandotte, BLRWyandotte, Speckled Sussex, and Barred Rock. Original plan was to sneak them under broody momma hen who’s chicks just hatched recently but...
I got 4 speckled sussex "pullets" out of the bin at TDC. They are roughly 4 weeks old. Everybody looks great! Then I was gone for 3 days and this little fellow sprouted a comb!😂 Maybe, just maybe, an early developing pullet??? I'm not hopeful..
The large full tail feathers say hen, but the comb is starting to get pink so that tells me roo. It is also top of the pecking order (actually, the only chick I've seen throw a peck at another). Any thoughts from folks? It was supposedly vent sexed as a hen when hatched.
Hey Friends,
I just got home from picking up some wonderful hatching eggs froma town a couple hours away. She had beautiful Black Copper Marans and Speckled Sussex. I ordered a dozen and she gave me 18! I dropped one.
