••• IMPORTANT - Read Regarding BYC Downtime & Malware Warning •••

My husband (in charge of household computer security <g>) has asked me to ask y'all whether we know what KIND of malware was involved?

(Because we have a very old computer, with a whoooole lotta extra memory, and about three kajillion doc and jpeg files, and when he tried to do a total scan last night, after 4 hours it was only 3% done

So he wants to know what kind of malware to decide what to scan vs not scan...)

Thanks for any info,

Pat

I'm new to the forum, and wanting to check out the sister site. But, I'm still getting that it's a security risk. I'll admit to being a bit scared to try and go on anyway. Last time I was on a forum that had that happen to it, it was horrible getting my lap top clean!

Unfortunately, my PC is affected and it won't let me RUN any of my spyware/malware programs...

I'm downloading them on another PC and then using a zip to install them on my PC, as it won't even let me GET to the websites to download them. It's taken over IE and Firefox...and I'm slowly loosing functionality of both programs.

I attempted a system restore, no joy.

Sorry to hear about your problems Kate, this stuff definitely stinks big time and I hate the people that do these things on purpose! We're looking into it and hopefully we can find something that will help. I've been working with one of our BYC members who is a rock star with this kind of stuff so maybe we can find some answers.

(my fault... I was trying to fix the header problem discussed here )

I gotta stop messin' with stuff in the middle of the day, but I thought it would be a simple fix, but I just made the other header on the index page break.

It was a "fatal error" meaning that the header I was trying to include wasn't scripted properly so the program "died".

I quickly put back the backups and it was back to how it was before I monkeyed around. I don't think it was more than 5 minutes, but when there are hundreds of peeps on, someone is bound to notice.

I am having the same problems. I can't even get to the sights that can help me. The only thing I know is I have 5 trojans on my laptop. I haven't had any luck trying to remove them.

Maybe I'll try what Kate did.
