Canopykit watched the kits sadly, she had been born all by herself with no littermates so she didn't fully understand the loss of a sibling but she did understand loss of a loved one and she knew when the kits were a bit older they would look back on this day sadly

~Hawkclaw stared at Ashstripe from across camp, his affection for her suddenly unbearable. Ahhhhhhh!!!!! he screeched at himself and abruptly bolted down the stone path into the brightening valley.~

~Hawkclaw slowly waded into Bird Foot Lake and treaded water. He had always considered himself an excellent swimmer and was often complemented for it. If only I could go swimming or maybe hunting with Ashstripe someday... He heaved a sigh of many moons, miseries, and mooning that should have never even begun. Hawkclaw, he reminded himself carefully and softly, this'll never work. Ashstripe's destiny always has and always will be in her herbs.~
