«We Could Be Legends»

Alice quietly wandered around the shop poking at the blank keys and letting them jingle. She felt useless, the shop owner seemed to be avoiding their questions. And after handing the paper to Camilla back at Rivers she really had no need to be here other than to avoid doing her school work. With out her phone she had no way of knowing if Aunt River had finished with Indigo, or if they had learned anything. Maybe River had found everybody already and they were back home safe, maybe this whole thing had been a misunderstanding, and they didn't have to go on this wild goose chase to find the key at all.

Alice looked over at Jessi who was leaving in frustration, they were done?

Tom raised his eyebrows, his eyes sparkling bright blue. He sighed and picked up the piece of paper Camilla had put down. He squinted at the writing on it, and then lifted the pair of reading glasses that hung round his neck to look more closely at what was written on it.

He glanced up at them over the rim of the glasses.

"I didn't make the key that that Cat-woman is after. And it's not at all what you think it is, unless," He shifted his stance uncomfortably, with a grunt, "You know, it's not even what she thinks it is, anymore." He frowned down at the piece of paper again. "Since you have this I suppose, you must have been talking to Silver. Did she ask you to come here?"
She edged back toward the counter so she could hear what he was saying.

"Then what is it?" Jessi asked. She glanced around, and looked back at Tom. "Well, Silver is dead. She was killed by the cat-lady."
"It's hard to say exactly" He said avoiding the question again. Tom's face turned grey. "W-what?" He stammered, his eyes grew big and worried as the information sank in.

"What happ...? I mean," he shook his head "Uhh, y'see... y-you kids'll die if you get mixed up in this. You should leave it to the adults to take care of." He shook his head again crumpling the paper up and throwing it in the garbage. "Ain't no good can come of you meddling in this." He started mumbling to himself frowning "It's not like it's any of their business. That's how a person gets themselves hurt.... Helping...." Tom looked up at Jessi, tears standing in his eyes and said more clearly, "You, you all should just go home and, and be glad that the multitude is here now. They weren't here back then... lots of bad stuff happened then. But don't you worry! You can go home and be happy that you and your families are safe. Everything will be just fine!" The tone in his voice made it sound more like he was trying to convince him self of that then that he actually believed it. "It's not like it was back then." he muttered nodding and he turned away from them making himself busy sorting through papers that looked like they were already organized.

"I'm sorry. Were you guys close?" She asked, her voice soft and sympathetic. She pulled out the paper from the trash, and flattened it out the best she could. "We-I- Won't sit by and do nothing while people get hurt. Please, sir, I want to help. Can you tell us about the key?"

Silver's shriek was cut off as she was slammed brutally to the wall."Don't do this, Maple. I know how much you want the key, but would you really kill for it? Would you go that far?"She whispered, her stormy gray-silver eyes wide."Oh yes, Silv. I will kill and kill again if it means I can get my hands on the key. Where is it?!" Mapleshade hissed, baring her fangs, drawing a knife to Silver's throat.
"I refuse to tell you!" The knife slammed into her throat, a muted, strangled cry coming from her lips. She put a hand to her throat as Mapleshade released her, and put a hand on the way, staining the white wood red with crimson blood. She stumbled towards the living room, in weak attempt to get away from Mapleshade. She fell to the floor, and stilled, blood now pouring to the ground, but with no life force.
Silver was dead.

Mapleshade stared over her friends body, watching her bleed out."I never wanted it to happen like this. I wanted to keep you alive. You could have given me the key.

I'm so, so sorry, Silver."

"Please? We really need to know. We're trying to help a-" Brisa forged ahead with the word- "friend." And what could he mean by "back then"? Could this maybe have something to do with our parents?

She knelt to the floor beside Silver, her ears pinned to her head."I didn't want it to end like this. I really didn't."She whispered, her throat tightening."I wish we could have gone back, back when you where with those other Inhuman's. We shared everything. Why couldn't you have just given me the key?"She put a hand on Silver's limp shoulder."I'm so, so sorry. Goodbye, Silver."

---------------

She was jolted from her half-conscious memories when she felt her back gently hit a bed."Shhh, stay there. I'll be right back." Comforted by the sound of Michael's voice, she rested her head against what she assumed to be a pillow. She didn't bother opening her eyes as Michael's footsteps faded. Moment's later, they came back, another person following him. Exhausted, she didn't even move when she was warm water and a cloth on her face."Will she be alright?"
"She'll live, but...she might not like the outcome. Her face will scarred for life, and she...she'll be half blind."
Silence. Absolute dead silence."But...no, surely she wouldn't go blind? I mean...she..."
"The eye is missing, Sir. It's gone, I can't fix that."
Mapleshade didn't even feel what happened next. She just knew second's later someone had walked away, and someone else sat down on the bed next to her. She felt Michael's gentle hand brush hair from her face."I'm sorry they did that to you."He whispered.
She opened her eye, glittering a brilliant green in the dim light."It's not your fault, Michael."She murmured."It was worth it. We have the key, that's all that matters."
"My son is a pathetic fool. Of course he gave up and told you where the key is. He crumbles so easily under pressure. Silver babied him, she wiped away his blood and tears any time he got hurt instead of just letting him grow up and learn to deal with it. Boo hoo his life is so hard. Poor him. No! He should just deal with it and move on. His mother's dead, so what?! She would've died anyway, doesn't matter if she dies now or twenty years from now. I'm honestly ashamed to say such a pathetic boy is my child."
Mapleshade stared at him for a minute, eye narrowed."You're right. I don't know why I ever felt any pity for him, really. You should've seen him in the fight at the park. He defended that girl, what was her name, Bleddyn I believe? Yeah, he defended her as if she was his life long love. She has no love for him, he is just a desperate fool."
"Yes, I know. Rest now, you'll feel better."
She smiled softly at him, closing her eyes and letting sleep wash over her.

Wolfram, not even aware of a different person lifting his body from Lachlan's arms, hung limply there, unmoving.
"He can't really help him unless he's shifted. He has to wake up and shift."
"We can at least stop the bleeding."
The same nurse nodded. "We can heal him."

The nurse ushered the children inside. It was not her job to ask what they were doing here, just to heal. She smiled brightly. "Hello, my name is Miss Hailey." She sat led them to a bright, clean, reception room.

Toby slowly followed her inside. He glanced behind him occasionally to see if the others were following him. He entered the room and looked around. It was surprisingly boring for what he thought a super secret base would look like.
