«We Could Be Legends»

"Yeah," Indigo squinted. "What happened to you?" She didn't helpfully include she meant what happened to his communication ability, so she probably had scrambled his brain even further.

"Huh?" Toby asked, glancing between her and Jessi. "Oh.. that.. I -um- stutter, sometimes." He cringed at his failed attempt to stop mumbling.

"Oh. Good. If that is all, it means we can try and help the Multitude," she stepped between piles of rock and other building materials. She peered at iron beams, just pieces of the skeleton of the building. All the money that would have to go into fixing this place. And yet, perhaps, all it was was a building. Maybe she could pull the Multitude out of this hole and bring it back together. A hand stuck out of the wreakage, and she walked over, pulling a man out. Though he looked ghostly, showered with plaster, and dark red smeared his cheeks, the fresh blood losing its luster as it mixed with the powder, he looked alright.
"Thank you," he whispered. Before he could say more, the dust entered his lungs and he coughed heavily.

Toby walked into the building, and looked around for something he could do to help. He was feeling useless, it he didn't like that feeling. He finally turned to Indigo. "Ok. What can I do?" He asked, hoping she had an answer.

"We're all going to–" Wolfram paused mid-hiss, head jerking wildly to the side, looking down. The same calico kitten had crept back with wide blue eyes. "Neko, the Nofurs are approaching. They have deathsticks and strange faces, you have to run."
His hackles raised, and he lifted his head, jaws parted. "Thank you, kitten. Run, go back to your Nofurs. And be careful!" He called softly after the fleeing kit. He glanced at Connor, and then jerked his gaze to where he scented the Pure members. "We have to run. You're right, we will die if we try and face them alone." Did he even understand him? Probably not, but he just prayed that he would understand the message as he leapt into the grass on the otherside.
It didn't take feline ears to pick up on the urgency in Wolfram's sudden change of course. And once Sherri followed without question, Connor was made completely aware of some imminent danger. Doesn't take genius to figure out what it's got to be, either.
After a fleeting glance into the veiling unknown, he hoisted himself up and hurtled over the wall, leaping straight into a dead run for the bank parking lot. He nearly paused to shift when brambles started ripping shreds out of his jeans, but thought better of it when a gunshot resounded somewhere in the woods behind him.
He charged out into the sanctuary of the open, breathless. "You...cats..." he puffed out as he made his way up to the dwindled crowd, not quite sure what exact words he had for the more shift-minded shifters.
