Peter was about to say that he and Grace could walk home, but seeing her how she was made him hesitate.
"That would be great." Grace said, before her brother could object. "Our house is by the-" she noticed something out of the corner of her strangely blurry vision and narrowed her eyes at it. A skateboard. Wasn't one of those kids riding that? She walked over to it, trying to ignore the weird numbness in her limbs, and picked it up. Carefully putting the skateboard under her arm, she headed back to Toby, Jessi, and Peter.
"Change of plans. We're going to Mrs. Loson's house."

"Where is that?" Toby asked, getting in the car. "Passenger seat!" Jessi called & jumped in. "Well duh, your wings don't fit in the back. You guys coming?" Toby said, starting the car.

Grace got in, almost putting her foot in the wrong place. "Okay, I think it's..."
While Grace told Toby directions, Peter stuck himself in the back with his sister. He fidgeted awkwardly, hoping that where they were going was nearby. He never remembered directions, believing they were unimportant compared to other things. Like, for instance, birds. Or books.

"Got it." Toby said and turned on the radio. He started singing along as he drove there. "I was scared of dentists and the dark. I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations, oh, all my friends are turning green. Your the magicians assistant in their dreams. Oh, oh, and the car won't start!" He sang. Jessi turned around to Peter & Grace & shrugged. She wasn't going to correct him on the lyrics, or say that it was a really, really old song. They eventually pulled up into the driveway and parked. "Does this look right?" Toby asked.

Grace couldn't really see the building through the haze that had settled over her vision. Not that she would recognize the place, seeing as she hadn't been here since she was in kindergarten. Her family had moved around for a bit, which was why she didn't know any of her parents' friends' kids that well. I guess I'll have to get to know them now. "Yep, that's the place."
Grace followed Peter as he hopped out of the car. "Thanks for the ride," she said, her brother echoing her. She marched determinedly towards the door of River's and Zen's house. Time for some answers.

"Anytime." Toby said. He waited in the driveway until they got inside, just in case it was the wrong house or something happened.

Sherri reached a hand into her sodden leggings back pocket, half expecting to see a fresh lineup of notifications on her phone screen. But it was shattered and dead.
"Umm, broke my phone," she mumbled, acting as though she was telling her mother it was rainy outside instead of breaking an impressive feat of technology.
"We'll think about about getting you a new one... next Christmas. Meanwhile you can use this five dollar phone." Emily handed her an old touch screen phone with all of the most basic functions, calling, texting, photos. "You'll have to use the lap top for Pic Flip now."
Sherri almost grumbled, but received the phone with a smile and a "Thanks, Mom."
"Why were you out in the rain anyways?" Emily asked a very good question.
"Long story," Sherri said, holding up a pink-painted finger. "After I shower."

She shed the sodden clothes and was thankful of the heat of the water, she had been shivering from being cold and wet ever since she had arrived in the IHOP parking lot.
She changed into a grey thermal-wear turtleneck and loose black yoga pants, accepting the fact that sunny clothing could be defeated by the weather. She slouched on the couch and stared at the vacant screen of the television, really wanting to curl up with tea and a good book, but having a lot on her mind right now. Well, her mom brought the tea at least. Chocolate mint. She breathed it in. It really did smell pretty chocolatey. It was weird they could make mint leaves smell that way. She wondered if her cats ever would like mint tea, or at least catnip tea.
Dorcha, a fluffy black kitty, turned into a rumbling warm bundle on her lap. His name would have been named 'prionsa na dorchadais' which is 'prince of darkness' translated to Irish, for his color and ruthless pillow stealing, but it really was rather a difficult name to yell when scolding him for jumping on the counter.
Emily lay beside Sherri in silence, then leaned back. "So, what happened today?"

(had an idea. A4R turn on the tv.)
Sherri hated tv, but she accidentally pressed the button and decided this awkwardness was too much, so she let it be. (And she secretly wondered if that battle had somehow gotten on television.)

TV: A woman's voice bland and dispassionate flooded the room. She stood filling most of the screen, with flashing red and blue lights behind her.

"Fletcher street is closed in the wake of this tragic event. A teenage boy was struck by an SUV after leaving the park. Police were the first on the scene, but unfortunately due to the ongoing communications disruptions in the area, emergency crews were not notified in time to save this young mans life. As yet no names have been released but police believe he may have been involved in an earlier incident and are investigating. This has been your on the hour local news up date."

The news cast ended and a bouncing cereal box hopped on the screen. Cheerfully throwing cereal around like confetti.
