«We Could Be Legends»

"Ah," Sherri said. "You don't look much like cousins," she openly admitted, then her cheeks flushed, with embarrassment, she hoped she hadn't offended Alice. "Is Brisa all right? I didn't see her where I was, she's my friend." Sherri's eyes were wide with concern.

Alice shrugged "We're not clones. Although Finley and Lachlan are twins." She shook her head that didn't really matter right now."I saw her with Yris. I think they both left at some point."

The lady ignored them partly because they had already done so to her and felt it fair to have some mutual ignorance, and the other half was because she was out of earshot. While Sherri was distracted by the tabby, and Alice in turn was distracted by Sherri, the mermaid had wheeled her way to the back of the store.

A register- which looked an aweful lot like an old typewriter- sat atop shelf which was hooked over a wall of glass three inches thick. The glass held back a deep tub of water, a sort of lounge for her, including a boyant inner tube, various snacks, and the purple flowers that were the source of the smell. Once she had wheeled herself up to the counter, she set the brakes on the chair, and then hoisted herself over the register. Apparently she didn't mind getting the wooden floor wet, for she pounced upon the innertube several feet away, splashing everything in a three-foot radius.

She laid back on the pooltoy with a sigh. "A pheonix starter? Why that's just exactly that a starter kit for a pheonix. Never had one myself, but inside that lil birdy's butt is a capsule with some ashes in it. All ye got to do is light the thing on fire and poof! Birdy. Course, I never had much need for one myself. As you could probably tell, I'm not a Pyro." Maryella sloshed to the other side of the pool and grabbed a bag of various candies from her clutch of sugary items. "So, uh..." she called, "That tall woman with the heels... she a friend of yours?"
"Not exactly," Sherri said. "We don't know her. But she seemed really nice." She turned over the bird, and put it back on the shelf with remorse. She had always wanted a phoenix, but it wasn't hers to ask for.
"Welp, I'm no pyro," she said. "But I can turn the color of fire!"
She shifted into a flaming red tabby. She was smaller than the sand colored cat.
"No I've never met her before. What do you know about the Pure, and the Multitude? I've never heard of them before." Alice said raising an eye brow at Sherri.

I stifle a sniffle. «Lies. It was all lies, Zi.» I thought as the eagle landed beside me. I watched the people carry out their everyday lives below, passing by the library without a second thought. I just wanted today to be over. Every bad this imaginable kept happening. Not only did I punch an orphan kid with no real reason for doing so, but now I found out that Mom and Dad-

I couldn't even comprehend it. Suddenly going home was not only revolting, but maybe even dangerous. I looked out on the lampposts and traffic lights with blurried vision, all the colors meshing together. «We can't go home. We can't even go home.»

As if on cue, my stomach rumbled. It was another day and a half before they could get lunch from school. How cold was it going to get? How long would it rain like this? As I huddle closer to Zion, I wonder if today isn't only the beginning of a long line of bad days. «But where can we go?»
Zion cocks his head at his sister when she says it was all lies. What were lies? he thinks. He opens his beak to ask her but a soft, dry screech only comes out. He hops out from underneath the lion and shifts back into Human form, he kneels down and sticks his torso back underneath the lion and strokes his sisters head. "What were lies? Why cant we go home?" he murmurs.

Ah. She just had a pretty voice.... with a British accent... Sherri said dreamily, before realising she was a cat and people couldn't understand her.

The moment Sherri shifted into her second Skin, alarms went off in Sandy's head. She arched her back, hissed and spat at the intruding cat, «this is MY house, back off, stranger!» She hissed.

Maryella rolled her eyes, exchanging the bag of sweets for a plastic can of cat treats and shook it. "Sandy, be nice!" She called. Then, turning to the undestracted Alice, she said, "I don't know if you could tell this, but I'm a Siren. I'm sure that doesn't mean much to you, but you may know that our songs can enchant- litterally." Maryella leaned over the tub, offering the treats to the naughty little cat, who approached unphased by the water dripping over the sides. "An enchatress or enchantor can tell when another can do the same," she eyed Alice, "and the tall one had you under quite the spell... but that doesn't matter, does it?"

A low growl sounded from Wolfram's throat."Mapleshade."He hissed through clenched teeth."A manipulative, lying, evil, good for nothing, selfish, stuck up snob. She was my moms best friend, but my mother never knew what Mapleshade was up to. Mapleshade tricked people, and did things that even I don't know the full story of. That's why I don't want to go back to where I live, because I am going to be forced to live with her until I can afford my own place.
Lachlan listened carefully to Wolfram, and gave a nod when he was finished. "Doesn't sound like the type I would want to live with, either." He said, and walked back into the kitchen, which was separated from the living room by a counter, instead of a wall, and only covered one side, the other open to walk through.
All the cabinets were stained coffee color, the floor was hard wood, the counter was white and grey marble granite, and an island counter was in the center of the kitchen. The kitchen also worked as a dinning room also, a large table with chairs positioned around it sat to one side. Against the back wall was a stainless steel fridge and freezer.
Lachlan opened the fridge, taking out a cold water. "You want anything to drink?" He called over his shoulder.

I curl up tighter, not wanting to admit the truth myself. I shiver at his touch, «Mom and Dad were in the news... years ago. They did something horrible. We... we can't stay here.»

I rose to my feet, three legs on the ground, and slid out from under my houserobe into the chilly air. The search for the murdurerer sounded childish and impossible now, replaced by the startling reality that if they did this, they would be homeless.

Wolfram looked up from looking at Scorch."What? Oh...No I'm fine, Thanks though."He trembled, cold and wet. He smiled, crouched down, petting Scorch. Dogs Wolfram had met had always been huge, with big snapping jaws, but Scorch and Peterson where friendly and sweet.

Zion thinks about what his sister said for a moment, What does Delilah mean? Both mom and dad did something horrible? They were on the news? I can believe mom did some horrible things back on Elemians but dad? He couldnt if he wanted to...
Thoughts and theories swim through his head for what seems to be an eternity, he gently turns his sister around to face him and looks into her eyes.
"Del, talk to me. What are you talking about?"

"No problem." Lachlan said, closing the fridge, he walking over to the counter, leaning against it as he drank his water.

Alice watched the cat who was now eagerly standing on it's hind legs staring at the treat can with rapt attention purring and reaching gently with its paws. She tried to remember what Indigo had said to her. "You mean, she could make me do what ever she wanted?" Alice shifted uncomfortably, "Do you think she's could be with the guys that killed Wolframs mom?"
