Don't do it don't do it- Toby stood up, and a wave of dizziness crashed over him. He shook his head. "You should enforce the no weapons policy, because oh look, here's a knife." He said, and pulled out his knife. "Oh, and here's a lighter." He pulled out a lighter. "And will you look at that? Pepper spray." He pulled out the bottle of pepper spray. What is the point of me pointing these out? I'm going to be forced to leave-not that that's a bad thing-or I'm going to have my stuff stolen. Is a lighter even considered a weapon? I don't know. I think I'm going to pass out. I'm surprised I'm not dead yet. I must have a lot more blood then I thought.
Roberto smiled and held out a plastic bin. "Thank you for your honesty. You will get your weapons back when you are done here. Anyone else with weapons?"
He squinted at him. "I'm not giving you my stuff. This is an expensive knife and you will probably lose it. This stays with me." He pocketed his stuff.
"Sir, you must leave if you are carrying weapons. There is a strict no weapons policy here," Roberto said.
"Roberto, no need to come get me, I decided to come check on our guests myself." A regal voice filtered in as a door flew open, a tell young woman sliding through. She turned to close the door before River could get a good look at her, but when she turned back, she wore a huge smile, and River began to flick her eyes over her, seeing if she recognized her.
The woman had dark blonde hair, she also had dark brown rather big eyes, her skin had a dark tan to it, and a scar cut over her top lip. Something stirred in River, telling her she knew this woman. "Who are you? The leader?" She growled suspiciously.
"Yes. You look... okay, for the circumstances. Oh, how it does shock one to see their rescuer forget them, but I do suppose it has been... What? Twenty years? It's me, Leona."
"So if I leave you won't try to stop me?" Toby asked. He smiled. "If I would have known I was allowed to leave I wouldn't have entered in the first place." Toby was just about to leave when the woman introduced herself. "You guys know each other? Wait, Leona, as in the person who always called Rex 'Floppy'?" He asked. He remembered stories Rex used to tell him and Jessi when they were little, before he decided he didn't want to deal with little kids anymore and left for the military.
"Um..." River was at a lost for words. Leona was the leader of the Multitude? How? Was this even Leona?
Leona turned to him, her bright smile not wavering. "No one is keeping you here, you can come and go as you like. Ah, so you know Floppy. Yes, that's me. Are you his son?" She said, a happy sound clinging to her voice.
Roberto turned and smiled at his leader. They were more on friendly terms than professional ones. Just imagine a 4-H club.
Now imagine those kids grew up and added a few spies, a mini hospital and a different goal.
"Er- I guess you could say that. He's my step dad." He tightened his grip on Alpha's leash. Something about Leona seemed weird to him, but it might have just been the entire place. "I should go." He glanced at River. He was feeling extremely guilty about suddenly leaving the others.
Just like mom.
What?
I'm abandoning my fr- the people I know like mom did. I'm no better than her. I'm just a coward.
Leona didn't give Roberto a glance, she was too focused on Toby and River. Plus, he was kinda creepy. Dude, stop smiling at me.
River slid her eyes over to him, giving the ever so slightest nod. She didn't know if it was the best idea for him to go off by himself, but it probably wasn't safe in here, either.
River searched wildly for something to say, but instead her mouth just hung gaping open, as though her jaw was broken or she simply didn't have the energy to close it. Was this even Leona? It wouldn't be the first time she was fooled over whether it was the real Leona. She shivered as she thought of Noname, the shapeshifter who had fooled them all, impersonating Leona, they-- The Heroes, had mistakenly 'saved' her from Noble, a man who knew she wasn't who she seemed to be, and killed him by accident.
"How do I know you're even Leona? No one has had a hard time faking to be her in the past." She growled, pulling her usual blank look over her face.
"Well, I guess I can't prove that to you, can I? Any shifter could do that too. You'll just have to have trust in me, River." Leona shot back, her bright smile still stuck to her face.
River gave a low growl deep in her throat. Don't fall for something like that again River, don't- "Fine. I would let us keep um... Catching up, but I need answers. On the Pure. Right now." She said, studying Leona's expression.
Her smile had vanished and she looked River in the eye.
"We... I don't have much on them, but..." Leona started.
"I need whatever you've got, I don't care how much." River interrupted, flicking her tail impatiently.
"I was just about to tell you, Riv." She huffed. "But um... The Pure is an anti-inhuman group. They think we should be 'pure' once more. They're Firestein fanatics, River. Survivors of his army that took his idea to the next level. They think that Inhumans are 'impure'. They kill, much more than Firestein, you think he was bad but... The Pure make him look like a silly child. No imprisoning from them. Do... Do you remember what he did to Gage? That stuff he splashed on him...?"
Growing horror flickered over River's face. No, no, no. Please no... "Yes. It literally melted his wings off."
"They want to do that on a much grander scale. World wide. Melt away the im-pureness. Make them right. Pure. No powers, no Inhumans. That's what the key is for. It's a poison, once they release it, it will travel through the air and destroy all the Inhumans' abilities. Once it enters it's victim's body and bloodstream, it latches onto the Inhuman cells, killing them." She paused.
"They're in their final steps of wiping away the impure."
"Sorry for interrupting, but where exactly is this place? Thanks to a certain someone, *cough* Indigo *cough*, I slept through the ride here." Toby asked. He overheard their conversation about wiping out inhumans. There's actually something that can be used to get rid of magic? How have I never heard of this before? Why are they making it sound like a bad thing? I guess some people like their powers.
Wolfram flinched when Vanessa spoke again."There. Keep a good eye on that arm wound."She told him."Y-yeah, thanks."He mumbled."Are you ok, Wolf?"She asked."I...I need to get out of here. Right now."He stood up quickly, getting out of the room as fast as possible. He walked down the hallway, his eyes wide and alert with a sort of fear. He moved past Bleddyn quickly, not even acting at if she existed. He darted down the steps, heading outside. Great, more rain. He glanced behind him, before stopping dead in his tracks. A bridge was in front of him, a large river rushing underneath it."Catch up, silly!"Sage jumped onto the rocks, climbing down to the river. She dashed into the cold water, diving under water. Wolfram hesintally followed, walking into the water."Ah, it's cold!!"He yelped, Sage appearing from under the water, her white hair plastered slick to her face."Thats the best part, silly!"She swam out further, head above the surface. Suddenly, a shriek was cut off as Sage was sucked under the surface."Sage!"He glanced around. His mother was no where in sight. He dove under the water, appearing to the surface next to the place she had been dragged under. A unmoving shape was floating on top."Sage!Sage!"Panicked, he swam towards her, struggling to drag her to shore. He shook her unmoving, lifeless shape desprately."Sage, No..."He whispered. She wasn't breathing."MOM! MOM it's Sage, Help me!"
He walked to the edge of the bridge, peering over to look at the rushing black and blue water, splashing with rain. He honestly didn't care that his freshly bandaged wound was now soaked with rain. He felt numb to the pain, blindly he walked down the narrow rock path to the swollen river. He sat on a rock, staring at the river."Sage? I...I'm so sorry..."He looked up at the dark gray sky, sighing."How many people am I going to let down? I just wish I could have made then proud..." Dad? I wish that I could have made you proud. Mom? I'm sorry I let you down. Sage? I'm so sorry! I'm so, so so sorry!
Lachlan silently watched as Vanessa diligently worked on Wolfram's wound, trying to make sense of the chaos that had irrupted that day. When Wolfram got up from and scrambled out the door, Lachlan blinked, turning to Vanessa. "Thank you so much, Mrs. Davis." He murmured sincerely, before turning and in a flash, was out of the room and walking down the hall way, quietly following Wolfram into the main room. He glanced around, flicking his eyes over Bleddyn and Toby, when he realized someone was speaking. "... Final steps of wiping away the impure." He hardly caught the last sentence, much less understand it. He turned to see who was talking, and stood studying her for a second. His eyes fell on the jagged scar on her upper mouth. Leona. He realized before his eyes on River, who had a expression of slight fear on her face. Before he asked what they were speaking of, Toby stepped forward and started talking to them, and Lachlan, realizing that Wolfram had slipped out the door while he was watching the others, turned and followed out it. He would have liked to hear more of their conversation, but Wolfram was weak from his wound, so it perhaps it was best to make sure he was okay.
When he reached the bridge, he glanced down along the rocky path, and there beneath him sat Wolfram, looking sorrowfully out over the choppy waters, muttering about being sorry to someone named Sage.
Lachlan leaned against the side of the bridge, peering out into the distance, trying to ignore the rain streaming down into his eyes.
Having been silent throughout the exchange this far, Bleddyn detached herself from the wall and paced straight into the heart of the charged conversation. Wolfram was nothing more than an insignificant blur to her as he frantically made his hasty exit.
"Hoooooooooooooooooold up." Bleddyn spun to face the woman called Leona, mind racing as she took all of this in. The pretty woman looked genuine enough, but then there were River's remarks about her questionable past.
At the moment, she didn't recall a Leona from the relayed tales of her mother's 'heroics' during her teenage years...but then again, Ash had also been in New Zealand passively releasing captives while most of the intense radical stuff was transpiring in the bowels of America. Typical.
"You're saying this stuff could...just remove...what's not human?" She trailed off and took a moment to put words to the dark images that her mind was forcing upon her. "But taking the legs and body off a centaur or the tail off a mermaid...."
The majority couldn't survive. How possibly could they? They'd just be...horrific fragments.
"Or it's going to kill us all in one shot, just like that?"
Well, not you.
You're normal. Safe.
You'll just lose everything but your actual life.
