«We Could Be Legends»

Brisa froze, glaring defiantly at Mapleshade. When she left with the envelope Brisa took a few steps after Wolfram, already knowing it was useless. “Oh gosh,” she whispered, coming to a stop and covering her face with her hands. “Now what?” Lifting her head, she tracked the evil she-cat’s red shape until she disappeared around a corner, then blinked away her vision and dropped her hands down into her pockets to hide their shaking.
Wolfram hissed, and shifted without warning. His small cat form barreled through the bushes easily, tracking the ginger tail. A yowl pierced the air, a yowl of frustration mixed with pain. The wound on his shoulder throbbed, but nonetheless he pushed forward, his gaze trained on the ginger tail. Heart pounded, they both burst into a clearing on the other side of the bushes. I've got her! His heart soared as he pounded hard on the she-cats heels, certain he would get her until...she swerved, vanishing. He hadn't seen where the shifter had gone, instead tripping over his own paws and landing flat on the hard ground.
Sherri fluffed her ginger fur as the dark form fell down after following the blur of motion that was Mapleshade. Aren't cats supposed to fall on their feet?
She skidded to a stop next to Wolf. We have to go, she said, nodding her head towards the group and flicking her ears. Give up the chase, it's not worth it. She flicked her tail and stood up, walking in a circle. We have to work together.

‘Give up?! Not worth it?!’ Wolfram yowled, scrambling to his feet. His hackles raised, head whipping wildly around in attempt to catch scent of the other she-cat. He suddenly shifted to his human form, his opposite hand clutching his wounded arms. "Thousands and thousands of lives are at stake," he choked, "so many people are going to die. So many...innocent, innocent people. And you know who's fault that is? Not yours. Not anyone else's. It's mine. People are going to die because of me. Every...single...person..." He paused, swallowing his own words. "In this group are going to die. And it's my fault. And I can't do anything about it. I guarantee you, Mapleshade will set that poison off as soon as she can."

'It's not your fault. You just need our help,' Sherri's muscles twitched again beneath her fur, and she weaved a figure eight.

"There is no time to help, Sherri," Wolfram snapped, "we need to do something, and fast. We need to find her before its to late. We don't have time for a plan or anything useful, we just have to find her before she sets off that poison.

'Maybe, for once, we need to take time to think. We can't outrun her, or out maneuver her,' the red tabby cat stepped up and down and flexed her paws. 'We need to wreck her plans. Somehow...'

Wolfram hissed, and suddenly swooped down, snatching her off the ground. "Listen to me, Sherri. Listen closely," he pulled her up to look her in the eye, "we do not have time. We have no time to think, because once Mapleshade knows she's safe, she'll set that poison off." His voice broke slightly, but his face betrayed no emotion. "We have to follow her, now!"

Sherri yowled in something that meant "ow!" Or "stop that!" A warning even a human who wasn't Wolfram could understand.
She kicked her legs in the air, she was swinging from her scruff.
She very slowly shifted so Wolfram could feel the painful weight on his arm as it twisted, before he released human Sherri. "Someone needs to learn how to hold a cat correctly," she muttered, rubbing the back of her neck.

Connor only broke his stride to bark his disapproval up at the two aimless shifters, then smoothly launched back into his chase, having never lost Mapleshade's trail in the first place. Amateurs, he growled inwardly. Even for only being cats, they'd had their wits scrambled far too quickly. For him, her scent hung so heavily in his nostrils that it'd be impossible not to trace and down her.
Mmmmph. His feelings toward the two incompetent teen nekos were sour as he nimbly twisted and dodged his way through the sparse forest.
