It's got to be more than that; the Rural King has at least ten bins of various breeds during chick days, and there's definitely more than ten chicks per bin. (Unless it varies by store?)

Yes, it's definitely more than that - I think that was specific to ducklings.

I went to a Rural King awhile back and the tanks were so filthy that there was more poop in the tanks than shavings. I did go to the manager and told him about the conditions and also told him that , that didn't look good to customers and if I were looking to buy chicks I certainly wouldn't want to buy those. The manager actually thanked me. The next time I went into the store I went to look at the chicks, like I usually do when I go into the store, and the tanks this time looked much better and cleaner.

That's more believable, I usually only see 1 bin of ducklings, if any at all, at the TSCs around here.

I hate going to feed stores. Really the management is awful. I saw two chicks being pecked (one in the eyes) and brought them both home for free last year. All the employee did was move them into another brooder (really? How would that help?) and then I asked if I could take them. Sadly, one of them died (I'm sure it was being picked on for being weak and sickly, I do not think I could have saved it even if I knew what was wrong), but the one being pecked in the eyes survived and miraculously is not blind. A few days ago my sisters and mom were at TSC and they told me that there was a dead chick--completely flattened and had been eaten and trampled by the other chicks, and the ducklings didn't have any water because "they put their feet in it" (I don't know what my mom said to them but by the time they left, the ducks had water). Really people! It makes me so mad. I wish I could take all of the babies home with me.

These horror stories and all of the cornish crosses that are sold as layers help me not be tempted. Thankfully I haven't seen anything quite this bad, but I've had some concerns about crowding and cleanliness.

I actually had one of my first good chick experiences at TSC yesterday. I met an employee who actually knew what they were talking about and for once the breeds were in the right bins
I got 10 chicks.

Our TSC's (we have two fairly close) are pretty good about it. If someone at the bins can't answer a question, they've each got a chicken savvy manager ... and they'll ask for us. So far, so good. Not that I get the chance to ask many questions anymore. My children have banned me from TSC until Chick Days are over ... {{Sigh!}}

We’re fairly new to hobby farming (just shy of a year) and this is the first time I’ve seen the “clearance bin” of chics at Tractor Supply. I don’t know if it’s like that at every store, but it was truly awful at the store I went to . In the 10 minutes we were there, the lady took out 4 dead chics (all dead from being trampled). I cannot believe how many they had in this bin and the size differences were way too great! It looked like 2 week old chics with day old chics!

Anyway, we were horrified and somehow left with 36 new chics! Thank goodness our new barn with massive chicken coop is almost done because I think that now puts us around 91 chickens!!

luckily we have a north 40 here... Best place to get chicks EVER!
