If the region you are in, $15 + $feed is good, I wouldn't complain.
Locally, I can buy a dressed out hen at the store for about $8, or $10 from a local farmer. When the Guatemalans come by, they are happy to give $20 for what they call a Santa Ria Roo. They are acting like I'm the only one with chickens to sell. Before I agreed to sell, when they threw out a price, they said they were gonna eat them. They are some of the only ones around here that understand it costs more to hand raise, pasture feed with a few organic suppliments. I've heard of others asking over 20 a bird so they must be selling yearling Orps or brahmas.

$15 for day old chicks isn’t too bad IMO here for specialty layers and heritage chicks, they range $5-$20 for most rare breeds. With a 50/50 ratio of sexes that brings pullet cost to $30 each... at a 7/3 ratio though I basically paid $50 ($75 if the small one fails) for each pullet chick and might as well have waited and bought grown out pullets for $80, cause when you add in my feed cost I’m actually paying more for the babies.

Not to mention how much those boys are going to eat until they get big enough to process, feed is about $15/bag! Non Cornish Cross meat hybrids run $2.80/chick under 50 chicks and they say they grow out in 12-14 weeks. If I order Sapphire hatching eggs it is $60/dozen, each dozen comes with extras as well. That’s only $5 per egg.
