Heck no. Illustration is the real deal. Every book you touch has been given color by one such elf. Even one with a solid black cover and red lettering. That was an illustration elf's doing...

Oh, yeah. I was wondering if you would notice that. I wanted to show that the membrane has thickness, not just papery thin like most draw it. :3
