Definitely not Leghorns, and White Rocks normally have yellow legs, right?
No not Leghorns, WAY too big. They’re left over breeders out of a chicken house, I believe they’re Cornish cross breeders, they’re too big to be much else unless laying birds weigh 15lbs. But yes, white rocks have yellow legs.Definitely not Leghorns, and White Rocks normally have yellow legs, right?![]()
That would be my guess too. What are you gonna do with them?No not Leghorns, WAY too big. They’re left over breeders out of a chicken house, I believe they’re Cornish cross breeders, they’re too big to be much else unless laying birds weigh 15lbs. But yes, white rocks have yellow legs.
Nice. We'll if they lay well, which they should because chicken houses aren’t going to keep unreliable layers since there’s no money in that, I’ll likely keep them for eggs, maybe try to breed them with one of my roosters in 2-3 months. That would be my guess too. What are you gonna do with them?
I’ve convinced my mom to bring me to a local feed store(a different one than usual) to go look at the variety of chicks, they have a website with shipment dates and breeds listed. They currently have most of the breeds I want. My parents only want 3 more but the integration would be a nightmare also they have a 6 chick minimum
Thats awesome! So maybe we’ll be bringing home 6more chicks in a little while or I’ll have convinced her to get ducks(they have em but I’d prefer to order from metzer instead
Speaking of fending off....Awesome!!!!
I candled Terrence again tonight
He had pipped the sack and was pecking the shell
I about died it was so beautiful
Nice!If you haven't already, put her box in a dog kennel so she doesn't have to fend other chickens off all the time - plus it keeps them from adding to her clutch. XD
But it's so much more fun watching a broody raise them! - not to mention twice as easy![]()

My two Calls share the same nest which is just fine because they like eachother and the nest is too big for one duck anyways...
But my broody hens sit in adjacent nesting boxes and whenever Dominique, who is sitting on actual eggs leaves the other goes on the nesting box, so Dominique, a Dominique bantam, battles a large fowl RIR to get her eggs back and wins every time. The RIR is just content to sit on nothing. Today we found out the eggs survived the abuse, and gave an infertile Ameraucana egg to the RIR.
