Is it true that Arabian have a bad temperment? My friend absolutely HATES Arabians because she heard that.
Arabians can be hot and spooky, but that can be trained out of most of them, they are also SUPER smart, and that can be a good or bad thing depending... Like Wings, he has an evil sense of humor and thinks it's funny to torture people that try to ride him. He used to be a show horse though, so he is trained, he just decided he's retired and no one belongs on his back anymore.

Does else anyone do 4H with their horses? I do

If I get a horse I probably will.
I was in horse 4-H when I was younger, then I aged out. Also, be careful how you say things like that on here, you're not allowed to tell your age if you are a minor or even say that you are a minor, and since 4-H is only for people 19 and younger... You pretty much just told us all that you're underage.

Hello, fellow equestrian lovers. :3

You can call me Va, VA, Vanilla even Nilla if you want. Anything relating to Vanilla, except for Nilly. That is reserved for mai friends.

Okie.
So.
I rode for a couple years, about 2 years ago. English is what I prefer, but I've never rode western, so it's not a fair judgement. XD I haven't ridden in a while, so please excuse my lack of knowledge. I am looking for a horse, though, so hopefully said knowledge will come back once I start riding again. As of now, though, I'm a beginner.

I like expensive breeds the best. Probably due to my expensive taste in just about everything. :p Some of my favorites are Andalusians, Friesians, Akhal-Tekes, GYPSIES and Belgian Warmbloods. I know perfectly well that they aren't the best for a beginner, but that doesn't stop me from liking them. :3

I look forward to getting to know some fellow horse lovers/owners!

Man, this thread moves fast! :gig

I have a bunch of C4 belts and like them. I color coordinate with my breeches and polos or Kastel shirts. :) They're not super durable, but they're more of a fashion thing.

@LilJoe Do you know if is it the hair you're allergic to, or the dander, or the hay that they cover themselves in? My parents tried to convince me that I was allergic to horses when I was younger but nope! It was the stupid timothy hay. Since hay is messy and dusty and gets all over them while they eat it, it can seem like the horse is causing it. I still know if I get on a horse that eats timothy because I start sneezing and turn into a snot fountain. :sick :lau

If it is the hair, consider body clipping year round. You'll need good blankets for the winter but the horse won't mind, and it should help. If it's dander, I think body clipping in winter combined with a good care routine would help a lot. I usually only see dander on mine in the winter. Having sets of saddle pads and stuff that you can wash frequently would help too.
I'm allergic to horse dander AND timothy hay :(
The horses don't do much to me though.

Lifelong horse crazy here. I don't own horses due to land and budget restrictions, but a friend of mine owns a few and I ride there occasionally.
This is my mount, sweet Sunny. He's a Missouri Fox Trotter gelding and about 10 years old. He's a bit on the slow side but I prefer him over the more fiery mounts because old bones don't bounce ;)

I only trail ride. I use an endurance saddle so I can't classify myself as being in any one particular discipline.

I had to say Goodbye to my first and only horse. it was one of the saddest days of my life. i was 11(i think?) and i always wanted a horse, my neighbor wanted to sell a horse and when she heard about me she gave me him. i was the happiest girl alive! when i got him i could ride him and halter and saddle him! Life was great! then the problems came. after riding him a few tim he started to run away when i came in the pen, i was 11 and had only ridden a horse a couple times, so i got my Mom and Dad. after 3 hours we called over his owner and could finaly catch him both of my parents have owned horses and they could not catch him. we tried treats, running him in a round pen trying to get him to submit, petting him. he was really set on not being caught.....after that my parents said to work with him more, so very often i went out and worked with him. he only got worse, we started having my papa (a professional trained perrelli trainer come out and work with him. he was okay but the second he left he would revert to his ways. it got so bad that if i could catch him he would not let me control him. we tried every bit, no bit, bareback, saddled, western & dressage. he only got worse. he started o randomly gallop when i was riding. he would even rear, i cold barley stay on and the more i worked with him he only got (lets guess...) worse. it got to the point where he would not even let me pet him, this broke my heart because i loved him so much. he started to run away, he would brake the fence and run. it was hard enough tryin to catch him in his pen you couldn't imagine how many hours it took my family and our neighbors to catch him, this became a weekly occurance so we bought a better fence, it didn't work. then it became a 3 times weekly occourance, then a every day occourance pretty soon on average he was jumping the fence and getting out 5 times a day on average. i started working with him and pretty soon he was running twords me and trying to kick me in the head every time i came in his pen. i could ony sit there and cry... it is the worst feeling after being rejected by so many people to be rejected by your own horse. he actually wanted to hurt me... he succeded. he broke my heart, he became so dangerouse that our neighbor took him back (my parents asked her to) and sold him. That is my story, i hope yours is better than mine.I will always love you Grayson..:hit:hit:hit:hit I hope to get A TON OF HORSES when i get married!

My 13 year old OTTB bay gelding Memphis. He's 16.1, has a lil white star and is solid bay all over. He's a sweetheart, and horrible too! Cows make him go psycho, leaving his pasture-mates turns him hysterical, and he cannot handle riding alone at all. Tough when you live in the heart of cow country and can't leave or even ride down the driveway because of the cows nextdoor and everywhere! I love him though, and he is very affectionate and an awesome jumper. He is the complete opposite of his buddy Fast William, a 21 year old Arabian gray gelding. That horse is the best! Anyone can ride him, nothing scares him or fases him, and he is calm and collected, yet still fast as his name suggests. He used to be an endurance horse until he was retired a couple years ago. Now he is a trail horse, and going strong! Don't have any p ics of him on my computer, I will get some! He's a big boy too, at 16 hands!
Last there is Legasea, a piebald Miniature, about 11 years old. He's spunky and tempermental like all those little guys, and not afraid of the big boys!
