Hello!
My name is...Bassically call me whatever you want, I don't care LOL

I come from Maine and take weekly horse lessons!!!!
I don't have any horses as of, but in the future, maybe.
Myfavorite breeds(this is coming from someone who is not horse breed experienced AT ALL XD)are Morgan's and Arabian's. Torrent, Audi, Duke and Jib, Three horses at my horse lesson barn, are those breeds and I love them.
The horses at my barn are:
Jib: Male Chesnut Morgan, He is kinda old. A lot of people don't like him because he is very nippy, but I love him SO MUCH. People are allowed to ride him.
Duke: Male Chesnut Morgan with three white socks and a white blaze. He is the same age as Jib(Jibs best Friend) and he loves people. People aren't allowed to ride him, because he is owned by someone else, not the barn.
Audacious: Miss Audacious. AKA Audi. I always call her Miss Audacious because I feel like Morgan's, Whitch BTW is what she is, Have a very snooty, snotty stuck up personality, and I feel like she would insist on being called Miss Audacious. Audi is a Morgan mare, I think she is black(bay? I don't know what to call it)We cannot ride her because she is owner by someone else.
Benny and Willow: Benny and Willow are ponies. I do not like them. My sister got kicked and thrown off of BOTH of them.
Yada and Stitch: Yada and Stitch are two ADORABLE horses, Breeds, I dunno. Stitch is pure black with some flecks of white, and he is 19 years old. Yada is VEEEERRRRRYYYY tall, And is brown and black. We are only allowed to ride Stitch.
Torrent: A ADORABLE Arabian. Tan with a white blaze and one white sock. He is only 3-5 years old. We aren't allowed to ride him, but I wish we where!
Twiggy and Sterling:Two beautiful mares, Twiggy has very thick black fur, and she is very tall. Sterling is a light chestnut with a white blaze and legs. We can't ride them
Valentine and Chezney:Valentine is a very old lady, She is gorgeous light tan/Chesnut color, with a white blaze and four white socks. Chezney is a light tan color with a almond mane that is BEAUTIFUL color. With a white blaze. We can't ride either of them.
Dawson: Dawson is a dark chestnut with a white blaze and two white socks. He is actually half Pony half horse!we can ride him.
Alex and Jix: Jix, Sadly isn't in the barn anymore. He moved away. But I loved his colors! He was a dark DARK chestnut with a white blaze. Beautiful! Alex is a light chestnut, beautiful coloration!
Chip and Bandit: Chip and Bandit are two, MASSIVE Paint horses. Chip is brown with white and tan splashes and Banditmis a dirty tan color with light gray and light brown patches.

PHEW. I think that's everybody!

Very cool! I like the little powerhouses. I had a 15.2 jumper mare that was phenomenal and could easily jump her own height. My current one is 17.2 though.

Some advice, as someone who has been doing this a while and has found a lot of first horses for clients...

With your budget, look into quarter horses and paints that are moving out of the show ring for your first horse. There are two absolute last things that a new horse owner needs: the first is a stallion or recently gelded horse, and the second is a fad breed like a gypsy or a friesian.

If you want to do western stuff, you need a western horse. For that price you can get one already trained to do what you want, and you want a horse that can show you the ropes at this point. Gypsies are bred for hair and color, not for temperament or talent. They are not athletic and are widely known as not being good at anything, except perhaps pulling carts.

I won't go into the backyard breeders that are breeding that poorly-conformed stallion that desperately needs gelding. YIKES is all I'm saying on that one!
Thank you!

I have found two horses that fit my budget...
A 14 year old bashkir curly cross (allergies :( )gelding for $1000 and an 8 year old QH mare for $600.

Also, my allergies aren't bad.. my eyes just get watery and itch.

Welcome to the thread Basically call me whatever you want, I don't care LOL! Haha just kidding!;)

YAY! A fellow Morgan lover!!!:ya I 100% agree with the Morgan personality! Cruiser, my guy, thinks he's the kind of some exotic country, lol! I have actually not seen any chestnut Morgans in real life so that's cool that you have 2 at your barn! The horses sound amazing! Oh and pictures are always welcome;););)

Just a tip, horse's that are listed at a cheaper price like the $600 QH can sometimes be a little sketchy, as can higher priced horses but make sure you always ask a lot of questions and go to try the horse out before you make your final decision.:thumbsup First horses are exciting! But don't let yourself get all caught up in the moment and make a choice you'll regret later:hmm

I haven't seen any curly/gypsies either:hmm
There is a very good reason for that. The curly gene causes the horses to shed their mane and tail just like they do the rest of their coat, so why breed a curly to a horse that's only real purpose is to grow hair??

I don't have a gypsy (yet), but I was wondering where you find saddles for wider backed drafts? -preferably western. Or are they adjustable that way?
A lot of Western saddles are already super wide because QH have wide backs as well, that said, they also make treeless saddles that will fit 99.9% of horses (meaning you can take the same saddle and put it on a TB or a Clydesdale and it will fit both)

I would go with the QH mare if those are the choices, if you are going for curly because of the allergies, you need to get a purebred and one of the more extreme ones, not ALL curleys are hypo allergenic and it becomes even more of a gamble when you mix them with something else, like poodles, they are hypoallergenic, but only a percent of poodle crosses are.

I am taking Into consideration their disciplines abd temperment as well as price lol.
One question... when the temperment is rated from 1 - 10, is a higher a number good or bad temperment?

I have been riding for 20 years, have owned horses for 18 years.
I currently have 6 horses of my own.
Wings - Grey (looks white) Arabian Gelding, my first horse.
Lolli - Bay Arabian gelding
Pippin - Silver Dapple Mini gelding
Papi - Bay + White tobiano Walking horse gelding
Stud - Sabino White TWH / Percheron cross stallion
Splash - Chestnut + White Overo Arabian x Paint gelding

I have had 3 horses in the past that I no longer have:
Shasta - Stud's dam, evil wench of a mare, gave her away, good riddance.
Doodle - 20+ year old Bay Standardbred gelding, went down and couldn't get back up even with help, started expressing neurological symptoms and had to be put down.
Thunder - 30+ year old Red Roan Blanket Varnish Appaloosa gelding, dropped a ton of weight suddenly and got a growth on his jaw, it was bone cancer, so we put him down before he suffered more.

1 is dead calm, could put a screaming kid riding a unicycle on their back and they likely wouldn't even wake up. 10 is climb the wall if you look at them wrong crazy.
