More like the birds wouldn't cooperate. First they wouldn't lay, then they were eating their eggs, and now that they are laying (and not eating the eggs), I'm not allowed to hatch because we are supposed to be downsizing because we are trying to remodel and then sell the house. The genes won't cooperate?
I got an egg within an egg from the quail once. I don't know how she passed it. It was almost the size of a chicken egg. The egg within was only a little smaller than normal size, it had a yolk.i meant to weigh it for @Texas Kiki because when hubby saw it he said he felt sorry for the hen that laid that one!! I didnāt think double yolkers happened like that in quail and I was considering putting it in the incubator until i saw that it was cracked!
Life is conspiring against more of them lolMore like the birds wouldn't cooperate. I'm glad I'm not the only one confused. I just want more of that color. But they won't cooperate. I hope the eggs hatch for you.
You might try some Vitamin B complete, maybe mixed with some Nutri-Drench. Sounds like it may be some neurological disorder. The poor think hatched really small, especially for a jumbo quail but I had 99 problems with this hatch so I can't blame anything in particular.
He doesn't want to eat/drink for anything.
He constantly flips over and some times gets stuck so I have to constantly help him. At least he has more energy this evening. This morning he didn't want to move much at all. I've been constantly trying to get something in his mouth.
I don't know yet if I am going to wake every hour or two to force him to eat a crumb or not.
I feel bad for him and can't just leave him hanging.
I havenāt had any luck with the flippers either so yes may be best to cull. can you āborrowā a couple of nuttyās babies so you donāt have a solo? or are you going to try stuffed animal? He can't stay upright.
He likes to flip and get stuck on his back.
Something just ain't right.
He will not eat or drink.View attachment 1818162 View attachment 1818163
that would be a difficult choice!! I would set 2-3 eggs from each for an assortment!! Iām pulling chicks this morning to get a final count but there were 8 last night assorted colors! Iāve got at least 2 pearls in the bunch!!@Sara L If I get any more of the reds like the parents I will hang onto one for you.
Looks like I might have up to 3 staggered week-apart hatches in a row next month! A batch from Sara, the 100 celadon from JMF for @el dorado quail , and then it's likely I'll fill the medium incubator with F3 homebreds once the first set has hatched.
Some of the current options for incubation:
pearl-fee x "sandy" charcoal
pearl-fee x scarlet
pearl-fee x dilute pharoh
falb-fee x charcoal
falb-fee x grau-fee/laced charcoal
charcoal x falb-fee 'curly'
charcoal x snowie
pharoah x blue+scarlet
pharoah x grau-fee/laced charcoal
roux dilute x italian (sex-linked cross)
golden tuxedo x pharoah
silver x silver pharoah
silver(genotypically also pearl-fee) x italian
grau-fee/laced charcoal x silver italian
grau-fee/laced charcoal x lavender
How do I pick how do I pick?! I can only attempt to hatch, like, 25 in that batch.
I am tempted to play the lottery and set up a large temporary growout within the electric fence for the summer.
