Also July 8th im rescheduled to be NPIP tested after canceling during the gnat fiasco then i Could ship

:yesss:

Nope, but they have really cool colors, and several are colors specific by gender. My buttons are crazy and don't want anything to do with the giant that brings the food. They lay the cutest little eggs though.

I have to talk myself out of them every time I go by your place. They are ridiculously cute.

Is it worrying that my celadon eggs should have shipped last week or this week and when I text jmf to see if they're shipping, he says he'll get back to me...and doesn't?

They shipped today! We just got the notice and they should be here Monday. Perfect weather imo, 60s-70s. And he threw in extra "research" ones again. :woot

Anybody keeping quail on wire? I'm looking for ideas on keeping odor down from all their poop. My outdoor cage is about 4' off the ground. The poop just falls onto dirt below. I thought of composting, but I don't want heat and fumes from the pile to rise right into the quail cage. Deep litter maybe? It would get a bit wet though. The quail cage has a solid roof to protect the quail from rain, but some rain will get on the dirt (and deep litter if I went that route) since the roof is about 5' off the ground. I fear deep litter would get moldy and smell worse than just the poop on dirt.

When my chickens free range they go after the feed under the quail so i do a deep litter under their wire cages to keep the chickens from eating too much poop. Its real hot out there but i dont notice any extra heat near the cages from the ground. Id think at 4 ft off the ground yours would be okay too. Mine are situated in the coolest areas of the yard one row only 2 ft off the ground but im kind of debating if we will set up some fans for the 110* days.

Nope but just did hahaha....mine aren’t overly blue....more white with small speckles and photo really washes out any blue tint. I do have some of my layers eggs though that look basically normal outside but extremely blue inside! I’ve been meaning to take a pic and ask some of the genetics lovers what that means!!!
I have some of these blue insiders too. I don't know what it means.

I don't know particularly, but lots of mine have more or less blue on the inside, so my best guess is that the celadon gene actually just extends the pigment and it's always somewhat there. :idunno

That was my guess was that maybe they carry 1 copy celedon gene but not complete for full expression?

I have no idea! My for sure single copy celadon hen does lay eggs with the thickest bloom for sure, but I have no idea if that's coincidence or not.

We will have a LOT to experiment with soon and find out.
Yes!! I’m still figuring out logistics of separating breeding groups for experimentation! I’m starting to think that my orders are like a box of chocolates as I never know what I’ll get! For example....this batch was pansy pearl Grau fee and homegrown CC623B2A-FB74-4A8B-B836-CECA2E51E292.jpeg 3630BF82-6390-45CD-B6A3-5BDA652711D2.jpeg 42D4C413-D613-4EB4-A102-475FF7783BCF.jpeg ....I got more snowies and charcoal/silver tux! Excuse their filth I’m hoping they clean up a little when I release them in the next week or so

Slightly rednecked on YouTube has his on wire over dirt, I think he did a video about the cage and droppings.

Mine are on wire with trays underneath. They don't smell that bad IF they are kept dry. If they get wet it's aweful. I scrape out the pans every week or so and try to compost it.
