āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

I found a free range quail egg the other day. It was amusing to see. At least one quail is living in the lilac bush where everyone hangs out, and two or three (depending on the night) extra boys roost at night.
I swear I have all holes plugged, but give up stressing over it. I have 11/19 accounted for inside the pen.
I don’t know why I go from no eggs to two eggs throughout the week though. I mean I do, but I don’t.

I attended my first swap as a vendor today. Kept all the crates inside my truck and was proud to say "im being npip tested please dont touch-- ill get em out for you." Only sold 6 birds but happy with the income they netted. All older pullets and one extra pair of breeding button quail not one straight run chickish purchase. Some other vendors with the BLRW and one other with the Cemani, no one bought any cemani or Hona though, from me or them. Saw some Isbars was pretty cool. No competition for someone with an eye for the standards though the others weren't high bred at all. Saw the man who sold me my first lot of quail. He remembered me from all those 4 years ago and we had a nice chat. Said he would buy a couple of my extra males to diversify his flocks DNA :)

Next wkend is the bigger swap and im debating on going.

Anybody have an idea what's going on with this egg? Notice the color change over the air sac. It is a very distinct difference. I haven't seen another egg like it so far from our birds. I float tested it thinking it might be rotten, but it passed with sinking colors (see what I did there). I am not sure exactly when it was collected, but it was within the last couple days for sure. We just keep our quail eggs in a dish in the fridge.

As a second question, any ideas for keeping track of when quail eggs were laid? We use a pencil to write the date on our chicken eggs, but quail eggs are too dark and quite small to write on.
