➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I did a random candle sampling last night of my eggs. I saw clear veins in a couple, dark sections in others, and one that was clearly cracked. The four celadon eggs look pretty clear, but I'm going to see how they look on Friday. My home eggs look pretty clear too, but I won't be surprised if they're not fertile since they're from the first week that one of my hens was laying.

Edit: This means that I'm down to 36 eggs in the incubator since I tossed the cracked one. It was a perfectly straight crack all the way around the egg like a plastic easter egg.

@Nabiki what do you mean by "the first week that one of my hens was laying"?
My hen had just started laying. The three that I put in the incubator are the 5th, 6th and 7th eggs she'd ever laid.

Edit: My other hens aren't laying yet, and the first one has stopped. I'm adding artificial light at the beginning and end of the day to see if that starts her up again.

Apparently it varies. With mine: Day 0 - mating, day 1 - we ate the egg and could not check for fertiliy, day 2 onwards - fertile eggs.
I opened almost every egg for the first week or two to check for bullseyes. They are tricky to see correctly.
I ended up just starting to set e them to test. I'll have to look back at my notes to double check but I'm sure it was a while before I got real fertile ones.
