I am having a good problem.

My homebred eggs don't fit in standard cartridges anymore.

I have one hen averaging over 17 g every day :yesss: I am going to do a full average over two weeks for every layer soon so I can record it on my teeny weeny pedigrees.

It does mean I have to start making my own custom paper-pulp cartons though.

I'm really not a fan of the battery-style cages or the sloped floors either. To each their own but it's nice to have the option to go more natural later (like I opted to after having bumblefoot problems on wire - and my birds are much happier for it! Even if the room they're in is much dirtier....).

I honestly don't think the floor space between the two will be much different but the second one gives you room for sandbaths and hidey spots, and looks like it at least has a flat floor.

How cool! How will you make the cartons? Maybe something i meed to do. I have a ton of recycled 18 ct chicken egg cartons and just use those for now but they wont last Years.

Battery cages. Prices look on target for new nice things. Go to the wynola website and look at what they start at.

So probably not good then? Even if I put very few in it?

And thanks, I did and I think this is the same one? And it’s like double?

I like the second one but price is waaaay too high for me

Yeah, it’s definitely high but I feel like if I were to build it it’d probably be the same price or more?? Like I’m sure the metal roof panels are expensive haha

I think it's funny how there will be a large quail sized hole in the dirt, but when I come back later, it's gone. They really do like to dig.
Mine are asssssses. They're becoming wayyyy food dependent and refusing to dig for dust baths even. I have to clear a 4ft spot for them every morning otherwise they wont take baths. I really need to get the tractor built so they can go work for their keep. A little starvation and hard labor should make them less spoiled right?

Thanks!! Those are all very valid points. I actually don’t really like the idea of sloped floors either. Seems kind of weird to me to have them on that 24/7. I know I wouldn’t want to be on a slope my whole life lol

I’ve kind of been thinking about making an aviary. Idk. There’s this huge area next to the garage that I would love to make into one and put parakeets and/or cockatiels and/or quail in it. :D
