I found something to use as a bigger brooder. I don't know if it will be big enough for up to 60 birds since I have to keep them inside longer due to the cold, but it's about twice the size of the old one. I guess I can get another heat lamp and use both... View attachment 1949367

Why do you have only one heat lamp? I have too many to count.. they're pretty cheap, I would get more.

I used the MHP with both batches of chicks but I’ve heard it doesn’t work with quail??

I just haven't needed more until now. You're right, though. They are cheap. The bulbs cost more than the lamp!

I do have an extra bulb. Just need the lamp.

MHP can work for quail too....just have to make sure there’s no spots that they can crawl under and get squished, suffocated etc and make sure food source is close as many wont venture far from heat to get food/water. I have some babies again now that sleep in the food dish!!

We had our first “real” winter weather this week! It started with rain all day Wednesday and Thursday morning with windchill temps at 29* yesterday afternoon as winds up to 20mph came through. Windchills overnight fell into high teens/low 20s. No frozen birds nor water was found this morning so it stays that way throughout this cold spell!!!

That's how it's been here in Eastern Oklahoma! I was surprised nothing froze. Plus my broody hen outside had all 11 hatch, well one had zipped but didn't get all the way out, musta got chilled.
