i have found that the best way to attempt to get quail to use shelters is to put food in them.....not foolproof, but will attract some

i vote male....rusty chest and brown head = male in italian/golden manchurian/autumn amber

I'm not an expert, but I too vote male. The chest is a smooth, even colour, no speckles in sight.

Mine just happen to shut up when strangers are around. They will scream at a cat walking by their perimeter fence but not make a sound if it enters their side of the fence. They will set off a racket if I surprise them by approaching from a different direction than normal. The will quietly ogle a skunk or raccoon in the live trap by their perimeter fence without making a sound.

They are guineas, go figure.

Well went out and checked quail this morning found three dead two missing heads one nothing seemed wrong I am thinking skunk the one that seemed like nothing was wrong I’m thinking hit it’s head cause it got spooked or had a heart attack not sure was planning today to do coop securement looks like I was a day to late

That's horrible! So sorry that happened. An owl killed one of my ducks the first night after they were in their new pen, but the day before we put wire on the top!!! I interrupted the kill and the owl wasn't able to fly away with my 5 pound duckling!!! 2am is hard to keep watch on land and in the sky!

My Bobs would, all I had to do was put hay in their buckets and shavings in their bed, but they all love love love the peat moss, it must be like meth to them!!!

Yeah well I don’t have work tomorrow. But dogs went nuts last night around 10pm and I didn’t think anything about coming out to check on quail. So may not be as long as you think

They must be all roosters....
Mine are all hens and they are the noisiest of the two for sure!!!
