➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I can SEE five pips right now, none have hatched yet.....
It's a waiting game!!!!


I wasn't even mentioning that I ventilated the laying box at the same time!!!One does what one has to in order to protect the flock, right!?


NOW I have +/-50 chickens, 8 ducks, 12 Bobs, 38 Coturnix, 5 goats.......
Yeah, I gotta OFF another 10-20 chickens. I should've never let them bantams sit on them tiny bantam eggs. This next year if they want to sit they can sit of a batch of BIG (freezer camp) eggs!!!

That's what all my fertile eggs are for, freezer camp. Go ahead and sit, but that chick is mine when it's old enough!

I can't wait to see what you get because this is one of the assortments that I wanted to get! I'm so excited to get quail.

Lessons learned this weekend.
1. The hole in your net that is obviously too small for a quail to squeeze through, isn't.
2. I have learned that 23 quail are too much in one day for me. Spread it out. No rush.
3. Don't start butchering near dusk. Even if Crazy Lady asks for help and "it won't take long before you get started".
4. Add an hour for chasing birds that get away. In the dark, add 2 hours. Without help, good luck.
5. Quail will let you walk right up to them (in the dark, without help) before flushing. Catching them is easier with a shotgun than a net. (Neighbors may disagree - but bonus, you are now the crazy guy with a gun.)
6. Feathers go everywhere.
7. Have the hole dug before you start. Dig it bigger than you think.
8. To a dog, butchering is an amazing, interesting process. Yes, they wanted to help. No, I didn't need that kind of help.
9. Clean the kitchen afterwards.

I just went to check on the eggs and there are at least 9 pipped!
I hate it when they do that crap!
There's nobody then suddenly the bator is full!
Plus I don't like that I can't see through the sides of the Hovabator!!!!
Oh, btw, I now have a Silver crowing outside. And...a wild type roo trying to breed with a "something" out there in that pen. That makes 7ish roos so far.

Yesterday, me with a net in both hands...... and still coming up empty!
Our plan, since they were all on antibiotics and were just being culled was "Let's just build a fire in the fire pit". Yep, they flopped out of the bucket, and/or out of the fire. There were little heads everywhere, my DH said "I must've missed the fire".
The goats started out curiously at the fence & immediately decided they needed to be elsewhere once the first head was separated from a neck!

I wish I was closer to you because I would take a few off your hands to start my quail obsession

I'm wondering if my roo to hen ratio will end up at 1:1 in that first group of 18 outside?
I know I have 1 hen!
