āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

How do you manage to get down to just 3 boys? I have pretty ones I have trouble parting with. I still need to butcher my boy pen, got 8 in there. I have 12 hens & 5 roos in breeding pens. I need to reduce the boys soon.

I probably only have 6 dozen or so...... and getting a dozen more every day.
I was a bit ruthless. I chose the one I thought was the prettiest and purest silver to replace the old silver boy who wasn't giving me fertile eggs. One from my third hatch that I thought was a hen turned out to be a roo, but he's got some really pretty markings, so I decided to keep him, especially since he got along with both the old silver boy and the new silver boy.

Today, I thought I'd butchered all of the roos plus crooked neck, then I went to clean the pen and found a boy that I'd missed. He's pretty and lucky, so I decided that he gets to live, even though he is missing an eye. He may get replaced by a fee from next week's hatch, but he gets at least another month.

I love hatching, and I'm glad that I seem to have found a market to sell some of my extra birds while still leaving me some to eat. I've decided that I'd like to keep 16-20 adult birds and keep a cycle of hatching going.

I'm finally starting to get more eggs than I eat in a day, so I can start storing some to sell and/or hatch. I have one person who wants a dozen to eat, so I sure hope my egg license comes soon.

My parents just did a huge shop and brought back tons of stuff including a lot of veggies and all sorts of other stuff haha could add the veggies still. :D

No onion but tomatoes and bell peppers and a bunch of other stuff.

Don’t know if I really feel like cooking more though. :lau
Also wait.... you drain canned beans right??? :lau

This is how little I cook :lau

@Kiki !!

Cut up a little bit of onion, a half of bell pepper and some garlic.
Saute them for a minute then put the can with the juice in the pot.
Warm it up for a few minutes then pour it over your rice.

I’m glad you said tomato because I just adapted the recipe and added one haha and we didn’t have garlic but did the beans and pepper and tomato. Used minced garlic though cause I didn’t feel like cutting up a clove. :lau

Whether you drain the beans or not depends on what you're making! I never use canned beans. I always save some of the liquid that I cook dried beans in to give some moisture to my chili.

Okay thank you! I Googled it right before @Kiki answered and it said to drain and rinse them and they taste better but it didn’t say that on the can and Kiki said to keep it so I decided to use the juice to simmer my stuff in haha did train a teeny tiny bit out before I read Kiki’s reply though haha

I should probably start using real beans but we only have canned ones and I just grabbed the first ones I saw haha black beans.

Idk if I should add it directly to the rice or not though? It’s a lot of juice haha

I was going to make an omelette but I figured I should probably mix it up a little instead of eating the same few things all the time. :lau

Am adding sausage too though.

Made brown rice. Didn’t have white. :hit
