Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
I figure with 48 chicks, I'm bound to get enough hens. ;)
This batch... Are all going to the freezer so I'm not too worried about gender.

The ones in my incubator... I better have some girls.

I'm not having a lot of hope for the ones I have in my incubator right now. I'm hand turning until my new motor arrives, but I'm only getting to it 3-4 times/day. With that on top of the post office abuse, I'll be surprised if I get 5 chicks.

I have that same nasty feeling about my eggs.

When I hand turned, I only did it twice a day. Still had some hatchers. Think positive!

Frequency of turning is important early on in artificial incubation process to keep the embryo from sticking to the membrane and against the shell. Later in development turning is not as critical. 3 to 4 times a day, if hand turning, is adequate.

Today's button/coturnix comparison pic. 9 day old button with 6 day old coturnix.

Edit: Right after I took this picture the coturnix ran up my arm and settled on my shoulder.

Good news
Set1 rooster crowed tonight. Extra light is working.
Malted Milk Balls growing. 9 looking good at 10 days.

Bad news
Set1 eggs are clear. Leaving for a couple more days, but nothing happening at 3 days. QB#10 is a Goose egg.
2 maybes in the Malted Milk Balls. One looking like a late quitter.
