➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

What do ya'll think are the chances embryos on day 9 will survive an accidental kid-quake? My son wasn't paying enough attention to his movement and ended up jarring one of my incubators. So far the batch losses have been low (8 duds, 2 failed development out of total of 38 eggs split between incubators) but I'm a little worried the next candling is going to have some sad results, though I checked a couple eggs and still noted internal movement.

Are they in a turner or are you hand turning?
If your hand turning and the bator isn't completely full...I'd candle them and check for cracks. It takes a pretty good jare to crack'em.

I wouldn't worry yet.

Welcome aboard!

I'm hand turning and I don't see any cracks. Just I've been trying to be super gentle because it's been my understanding that enough of a jarring can disrupt the blood vessels and now they've gotten a not-so-gentle shaking.

How many hatches do I need to do in order for my birds to be proven?
Do I need to be able to set 40 eggs and all 40 end up being fertile?

Now that I'm down a few hens my male should be mating all 6 if his girlfriends right?

Oh I don't know, that's so subjective.

With a 1:6 ratio I would NOT hold a few infertile eggs against him (does yours not have poor overbred favorites anyways?), which is one of the few upsides to keeping all my birds in pairs until I amass more hens. Then they have NO excuse :old

He is new at this whole mating thing.
Just in these last few days, since I removed three girls, I am noticing a couple of ruffled backs on a few girls. That is new.

It takes a pretty good jarring to cause blood vessels to rupture, or membrane to become detached. In an incubator setting it's not as likely as it would be from shipping.

I'm glad to hear that. Especially as these eggs got a little bit of scenic route with their shipment to me and yet are developing as well as could be hoped. :)
