Edit: And is farm raised really better than say, backyard raised?![]()

I think my current 10 are all from an original batch I ordered from KC quail farm last spring. Maybe a bit of my very first flock genetics mixed in. My record keeping was a good attempt but life managed to intervene and I didn’t stay on top of it.How long has it been since you've added new blood to your covey? How jealous are you of us who have all those pretty coloured birds?![]()

My mixed pen regularly produces pretty big eggs. Three of those hens are falb fee. Those are feather sexable and on the large side. My SSC pen produces both really big and really small eggs.I think my current 10 are all from an original batch I ordered from KC quail farm last spring. I like the pretty colors but for sure would want feather sexable.
I also want decent egg size. Do the pretty colors end up with much smaller eggs? 12-14 gram size would be nice
Auctions this weekend. So should I take the easy way and just hatch eggs from my flock or order some from Myshire? I think I just want to stick with jumbos so the eggs are larger but could be persuaded to try something else that is feather sexable. I also want to stick to small batches though.![]()
That sounds really cheap for them. Around here it's about $20 for four or about $15 for one jumbo.I'll double check the price tomorrow but I think I paid 8.99 for them.

I’ve thought about doing this. My favorite things about quail are the hatching and having eggs to eat. My least favorite is butchering. You could do both if you have enough brooder space if you want to keep them separate. I usually set my own eggs when I set shipped eggs as a control, if they hatch but the shipped don't, then you know it wasn't the incubator. If nothing hatches, it was probably the incubator.
Hmm. That would require so many things. Facebook account. Being ready to set up an incubator and brooder. Trying to just get a few eggs and not 408.Auctions this weekend.

Probably I need to start getting organized. Do they ever sell small lots? Maybe 15-20 eggs?
Did I see they offer jumbo Egyptian now? Is your mixed pen from various hatches or just a literal mixed batch of eggs you ordered? My mixed pen regularly produces pretty big eggs.
