➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

My 8 Button eggs in an incubator and 11 Guinea eggs under a broody were all due for lockdown yesterday and to hatch on same day... guinea eggs hatched already... two/three days early. I can hear some super quiet chirping in the incubator though, unless it's phantom chirping "in my head"....
It's phantom chirping ;) ...when I hatch, I'm constantly hearing chirping!

So I seem to be needing to switch from my heating plate to a heat lamp in my brooder. I have a basic shop light propped up on mason jars with a 45 watt incandescent at the moment. This is what I had around the house and am making due.

Any recommendations for a better set up? Can I get a higher wattage bulb and lay it on a hardware cloth top? Will it be a fire risk? Should I use a ceramic heater, a dark reptile bulb, a regular bulb? Any other things to consider?

If the temperature is correct, don't change a thing. Do get an extra bulb ready.

Are you seeing an improvement? This sounds like an improvement?

May I suggest filling the jars with water and securing the lid to hold the heat?

I use a similar setup but suspend the light from a wire rack. I leave the light on for 3 days, then switch to a ceramic bulb because I have one to start the day night cycle.

I put the lid on the tote to conserve heat, but leave enough room for the chicks to breath. Don't want to cook or suffocate them.

I like the filling with water idea. I’ll try propping the lid on a bit too.
I think things are improving. No more have dropped dead for the last several hours anyway. One still looks a bit off kilter but the others seem perky. Down to 12 though.:rant

I was thinking of trying the ceramic bulb thing but worried it will get too hot. I read some about needing a special light fixture. You use a regular one though?
