➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

That’s a good idea!! Thanks!! Our local store lists the dates for various breeds on their website but TSC doesn’t do that. Also the local store is literally sold out of everything except meat birds, polish, and turkeys and guineas. :th

They normally never sell out in advance and always have chicks in the store.

Probably a combination of this Corona virus scare and them only doing pick up orders now requiring people to order in advance.
I can't keep birds in stock myself. I'm hatching a bunch of quail because I have people who want me to let them know as soon as I have more.

I needed a few replacement White Leghorns so I cheated. My neighbor is the person in charge of the feed and chicks section at the local Murdoch's. When she stopped by the house on her way home to get some of my green chili and pork for her supper, I handed her a $20 bill to cover their cost. She held back the 4 chicks that I requested when she got the shipment in and hand delivered them to me on her way home from work.

It was a good thing too because she had completely sold out of them by the time she left for home that day.

Yes. With Coronachan people want ways to be more self reliant.
I wasn't even thinking about that when I picked my salad in the living room and my bell peppers for Spanish rice from my greenhouse. Of course the ripe Gold Nugget cherry tomatoes never even make it out of the greenhouse.

All my seeds have been popping up like crazy. :D

Will probably be a while before I get anything from them though 😂🤣

Oh wow that’s amazing!! Lucky you have a connection like that. :D

How many chickens do you have??? I guess I always just think of you as a turkey man and never really realized you had chickens too 😂🤣🙈

I love my White Leghorn. She is amazing. Very friendly, curious, and bold and an excellent layer of big huge white eggs every single day like clockwork. Wish I had gotten more of them 😭

Not counting the chicks, 14 hens and 3 roosters.

The problem with the production white leghorns is that they lay great the first year and their egg laying goes downhill fast as they age. I prefer to change them out yearly but the current group is starting their second year of laying. The one that is staring her 4th year has only laid one verified egg this year.

Nice!! I have 13 not counting the chicks 😂 only one rooster though.

And oh wow that stinks!! I hadn’t realized that. :( seems similar to the sex links then? In terms of then declining sharply and whatnot.

This is the fate of production hens. Commercial egg producers rotate their hens out at least annually if not every 6 months. Chicken hens have a finite supply of eggs. The more productive a hen, the faster her egg production will decline.
