➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

This is the fate of production hens. Commercial egg producers rotate their hens out at least annually if not every 6 months. Chicken hens have a finite supply of eggs. The more productive a hen, the faster her egg production will decline.
That makes sense!! Just never really thought of Leghorns as being in that category.

My other hens are still laying even though they’re pretty old but they’re also dual purpose breeds. And they usually only lay part of the year now 😂🤣

I hope my leghorn keeps laying longer than usual but it’s okay if she doesn’t too.

I got them April of last year so they are just now a year old. But she started laying I think maybe September or October so hopefully I still have a little while yet.

White Leghorns have been the premiere production hen for a very long time. They were the only production hen before the development of later breeds to satisfy the demand for brown eggs.

That makes sense! They’re definitely prolific layers!! Guess I just figured they were more like heritage breeds with longer production but good to know they’re not so I can be prepared in case she suddenly stops haha

We have development!! :celebrate

Day 4 Shop bought Coturnix:
Hard to say for sure with these ones, the eggs are very dark and patchy but some are looking promising.

Will re-check everything on Sunday!

It’s crazy!!! I saw lots of July and even August and a few like June or late May but so crazy. The soonest meatbirds were like mid August unless I got like 25 :th

Some other hatcheries had May I think but lots of small order charge, etc. making it expensive.

Maybe I could see if the feed stores have a few haha
I'm skipping a few posts...
what the heck are you talking about...ordering more already?
