➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Umm, I had a major incubator malfunction. It got up to 140 F, who knows how long, although I'm assuming for just a short time. My eggs are gone, right, no coming back from that?! I candled them, can't see any movement, could see veining and little blobs. Only 17 eggs not fertile, most from the same pair. Still waiting for the incubator to cool down so I can see if it can be fixed. Not a good way to end day 6.

Oh no, I'm so sorry Sara!

I had an obvious runt my very first hatch, I let it live.
I have an obvious runt this hatch and I am debating on not letting it live.
:confused::confused::confused:

Why ?

What's the thing with quailies and dirt? I've never given my chicken chicks a box of dirt in the brooder. Should I be?

A box of dirt from your yard can help your chicks start developing natural immunity to the germs outside. Also, they LOVE it!

I don't like dealing with problem children. :oops:

I do not want to accidentally hatch an egg from a runty one.
I'm thinking I will just wait until we can eat it ... Before they even start laying eggs.

#1 foot problem assisted hatch egg got better and I can't tell you which one it is.
#2 foot problem assisted hatch egg is runt. Obviously smaller than the other 8. The foot joint is larger in proportion to the others. Leg problems. This is the chick that was walking on the top of the foot with the toes folded back.

Growth is stunted, but chick is mobile. Still undecided on keeping first hatch as breeders or not. See how many are boys?

1 week and it is time to put these in a lidded cage. The open top brooder isn't working for me. Not to mention the poop factor is increasing. From my limited experience with chickens, 30% protein is really too much. The poop is not firm, watery and vile. I'll start blending it down with the 18% chick grower. Firm poop is the goal.

Added collard leaves. Poor babies couldn't eat it. Too tough. The chickens tear this up.

Yes, because they are ready to eat so soon, it makes sense to let them grow for food. Otherwise, it’s bye bye.

One month old triplet.
He looks pretty boyish.
