➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I just had the weirdest experience with a crow.

There are a bunch of seriously upset crows in my backyard. I went out to go see what they were pissed off about and saw one standing near my quail. I walked towards it, expecting it to fly away, but it didn't. It walked away and let me pick it up without struggling at all. It looked alert and had no injuries that I could see, but had poop running down its tail.

I figured that something was seriously wrong with it, so I threw it in the yard waste can and washed my hands very thoroughly.

Any ideas?

Wait you killed the crow or a quail?

Uhhhh ... it is nearly extinkt in Germany (mainly just bats got it here due massive vacine efforts) but I don't know how it is in the US....

Diarrhea and being such tame could have been hydrophobia (canine madness).
Crows can get it.

We call that rabies here, and it is nowhere near to extinct here. All the more reason to make sure it went away.

The crow. I figure that if it let me pick it up without even trying to escape, there's something seriously wrong with it. I don't want a diseased crow near my quail.
The only things I would have done differently would have been to bury it and not told anyone about it. There are valid reasons for "SSS".

Hey everyone getting ready to start building some quail breeder cages any suggestions on dimensions?
I'm designing mine. I use 2' hardware cloth and build a box to length. I have a 8'x2'x'2 and a 6'x2'x2' with metal roof. Check my albums for pictures. Both are out of scrap lumber from shipping crates and odd pieces I have collected. The wire refrigerator shelves are working great as doors.

If I use the 6' as a basis, install 2 walls and have three 2'x2'x'2' sections for the breeders I want to keep. 4 square feet will keep 6 Jumbos at 1.5 birds/square foot. Working well for me right now.

I'll keep the 6' and 8' as grow out coops.

Mine are single level and the poop falls to the ground where I throw wood chips to absorb. The chickens scratch and turn this. When it builds up, I scoop it to the compost bin and drop more on the ground. Working well for me.
