➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I agree with you! I use the puppy pads for my quails and chickens (the dry birds as I call them 😂) as the puppy pads always stay dry for them the first few days. The ones I use have little ridges in them with helps their grip. I then switch to the big flake shavings after a few days because their little nails start scratching the pads to pieces.

However, when I’ve hatched waterfowl (the wet birds 😆) they always make an absolute mess and their poops are nothing like quails/chickens. On puppy pads it doesn’t work (or didn’t for me). I rarely hatched watefowl but when I did, I used old soft towels/blankets that I could either wash or throw away. Then eventually they’d get switched onto bedding.

So yes, puppy pads for quails/chickens etc 👍🏻 but for waterfowl 👎🏻
The person who bought 35 chicks from me last week gave me a bunch of puppy pads to use for chicks. I have no excuse for not using them for my next batch now. :)

Mine love the trough they eat out of. They’re ridiculous though.

So the person who wanted them said they’ll get them this weekend, I’m not holding my breath. It’s been 3 weeks. They keep offering to buy food and stuff, I tell them to just come get the quail I don’t care about extra feed and junk!
You're too nice. 🥰 After a day or two you might consider charging them $0.50-$1.00/day per chick. You're caring for and housing them and that's also a consideration. The feed stores give their customers around 3 days to pick up and then add a similar boarding fee. You could make it part of your policy in future, then folks will expect it and hopefully not mind paying extra. Plus you're reasonably compensated for your inconvenience. If it becomes a serious problem (after you have only so, you could require a deposit, forfeit if chicks are not retrieved within x-number of days, after which you will put the chicks up for sale.

It's too bad things like this are necessary, but for most of your clients it's just not even going to be a thing. I would read a policy like that and think, "It's nice of them to give me a day or two to pick up." If anyone objects, maybe you don't want the hassle of selling to them.

I truly don’t care if they don’t get them because they’ll go in my freezer. After Sunday I’m not selling them. They can live 4 more weeks then I’ll butcher them. They’re repeat colors and I don’t need 10 Falb fee. 2 is good enough for me if they’re female.

Since my dog is incontinent, I have a monthly subscription on puppy pads and diapers. The pads really come in handy when raising baby quail and the dog doesn't mind sharing them.
A roll of paper towels is much cheaper.... Especially when you clean as much as I do.

I agree, but I am a lazy person :D. The pads fit right in with the cage. With paper towels, I have to unroll it, rip it off and place it...

I only keep them on the pads for a week. I should be okay, financially. That old dog is the one eating my money.
