How long after the last hatch should I wait before discarding eggs? I don't want to do any too early but I also don't want to have more pop. I had one pop during incubation for the first time ever and it was nasty.

The rooster can't follow his instincts anymore. The thing about pets is, you have it in your hand to humanly end it before it starts suffering.

I’m not sure I’d ever keep a quail that long. I’m not sure though. I’m just starting with them and I believe I’ll change my breeders every 2 years.

I figured hens every 18-24 months and male's every year since I plan on locally (within the state) selling eggs for hatching

I run the show here. I’m sure my DH will say to keep a few in the old folks home. I’ll just have to build another aviary I guess.

Yeah, once I get my own place, I plan on having free loaders because I get attached to my roosters too easily

I have 4 rooster chickens and I’m attached to them. They all get along so I figure it’s not hurting anything.

Our main problem is they eat, take up space and don't lay eggs (not that we even eat the eggs anyways)

I don't see any pips in the remaining eggs, is it safe to candle them again tonight if they still don't have pips? (Light candle, not water)
