It's an invasive surgery. The bird is awake while you insert the tool and cut the testes. It's super dangerous and mostly is only used in huge corporations overseas like in France. It produces a more tender, more docile male to butcher

also is it common for quail eggs to quit toward the end of incubating? Chickens tend to quit early on although sometimes they'll give up a few days before but 8 eggs made it to lockdown only for 3 to quit either directly before or during and the 4th began hatching this morning only to pass around 30 minutes ago as it was unzipping. The successful 4 all appear healthy though and are already eating and drinking within 12 hrs of hatch. So do quail often quit close to hatch or could my incubator be getting old? And do they have a limited time post lip to hatch? I noticed that all the 4 others were super fast, like as soon as they pipped they'd give it 2-3 hrs and then unzip whithin ~30minutes is there something that requires them to hatch fast? Or is it just strong versus weak?
