Oh, okay. It looks kinda cool, even though I know it's not a good thing to incubate.

Yeah I still have rocks in mine even though they’re older hahaI would have put marbles in mine if I hadn't found that little gem. I also head that quail always drown themselves though, so I was paranoid
I have like smaller/more medium size ones in it but maybe I need bigger onesHave you put big rocks in it to try and keep the dummies out of playing in it?
i just cleaned out the incubator and culled that chick. when I opened the remaining eggs, there were 3 or so early quitters and several that had their head toward small end.....none of them even turned to be able to internally pip76% RH is precisely why the chick got stuck! Was unable to turn while zipping.
if the water is getting the paper towels wet, that is probably what killed the quail......wet chick = death especially with quail. it has to do with their ability to regulate temperature. you may want to consider elevating it if possible and still covering with paper towels and constantly checking for wetness. i had 2 adults drown in the duck pool this evening.....and it was only an hour or so after we cleaned and refilled it......took me by complete surprise as it’s been out there for months. DH fed one to the dogs as it had already been plucked and the other was salvaged for freezer. looked like 2 females that were trying to escape the males so it’s definitely past time to thin out the boys!!I think it leaks or they run through the dish and spill a bunch. I’m not sure. But it seems like they go through it really fast and the paper towels all around keep getting sopping wet
I really think they play in it.
And then yesterday I filled it then left for a bit and in that time they emptied it. But the food is also wet so they should be hydrated enough so idk.
It’s really weird because I thought it was leaking but then sometimes it stays full so![]()
I’m gonna try a different one though.
you have tsc right?? that’s where i got my quail bases for the chick waterers. i use parakeet waterer for button chicks and quail base for adult buttons and coturnix chicksI think mine is just a regular chick waterer. Probably need a smaller one.
If that’s it then I feel really bad.if the water is getting the paper towels wet, that is probably what killed the quail......wet chick = death especially with quail. it has to do with their ability to regulate temperature. you may want to consider elevating it if possible and still covering with paper towels and constantly checking for wetness. i had 2 adults drown in the duck pool this evening.....and it was only an hour or so after we cleaned and refilled it......took me by complete surprise as it’s been out there for months. Yeah we do but every time I’ve been lately (a couple different times) they’re sold out of like all the feeders, waterers, etc.you have tsc right?? that’s where i got my quail bases for the chick waterers. i use parakeet waterer for button chicks and quail base for adult buttons and coturnix chicks
You could also DIY one. I made a quail waterer with a water bottle and a plastic takeout soup container. I just cut the container to the height I thought it should be, then cut two small holes on both sides of the water bottle at the very bottom. Filled with water through the holes with the cap on, put my fingers over the holes, flip and placed into the container. It works great! This was just big enough to fit marbles in for the first few days. Also, test test test to get the water to where you want before placing in the brooder. I had to increase my hole height multiple times to get it to the right level.Yeah we do but every time I’ve been lately (a couple different times) they’re sold out of like all the feeders, waterers, etc.
Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow though or I’ll try the other TSC.
