What happened?

I’m not sure.

I just found it dead this morning with no warning or anything. It wasn’t sick.

And it was already pretty stiff and not really hot but not super cold either so I’m thinking maybe it died real early this morning or sometime overnight? But they were all fine last night so

It looked perfectly fine too so I really have no clue. It was kinda half under the heat plate, legs out, so maybe it got trampled or something? The only thing I can see though is there’s a small spot on its back where a couple feathers are broken and it’s belly is a little bit bare but that could be from laying there dead or being pecked after? No injuries or anything. It seems a little small so maybe something wrong with it? Idk.

It sucks though cause I actually thought it wasn’t dead at first. You know how sometimes quail lay like that with their legs out and they look dead but aren’t? I’ve been so conditioned to not freak out at that sight that I thought it was just doing the “quail pose” but I realized real quick it wasn’t when it didn’t wake up.

The only other thing I can think of is the water accidentally got empty briefly yesterday so maybe it was thirsty? But it was not empty for that long. I noticed and refilled it. And it seemed fine after that so
