➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

It is good, that you do not feel good about butchering.
It has to be done and it is good to bring meat on the table, but I think, if you start like killing an animal, it is crossing a red thin line, mentally.

I always thank the bird, for giving us meat and excuse for taking its life,.... as a ritual.

Here’s the girl. I kinda regret offing her cause she was one of only two white ones and super pretty and also I think she was laying but idk if her foot issues were treatable. Kinda wished I’d tried though  oh well I guess. The other white one I think is a boy. Anyone know what color she was?

Yeah that makes sense! I can do it now (which to me is also weird because I never thought I’d be able to even do that) but I definitely don’t feel good about it. But I think my parents had a harder time with it than me honestly. The entire few days before I butchered them they’ve kept saying why don’t we release them instead of killing them, it’s cruel to kill healthy birds, how could I kill my pets etc. but I don’t see them as pets. Idk. I really like them and all, maybe more than the chickens, but I had far too many boys. They would have killed themselves if I hadn’t so I look at it as a kindness in a way. I also was like kinda holding them and talking to them and calming them down before I did it because some were so scared and flapping like crazy :(

I really like this boy too but he also has a slight foot issue. But he’s my only one of this color so might try to treat him but idk. I can get a better picture that shows his front/color but any ideas just from these on his color?

Well, I actually didn’t tear it from the scalding itself but when I was trying to rub the feathers off afterwards. Is that the same thing? I didn’t take the temperature but I think it was close to boiling maybe. Idk.
The skin tears because it is over cooked from too hot of water. It doesn't tear during the scalding it tears as you are removing the feathers.
