➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I often just put them in the incubator alone with a lid of food and a lid of water with rocks to break the surface so it won’t drown. It might end up on its side or rolling around but they usually figure it out. Tomorrow you remove the shoes, and let him get some practice in without the others banging into him, and he will probably soon be normal.
Sadly, he/she died... 😞 When I saw it, it was really warm and was on its back...not sure what happened, but I am guessing it got too warm and couldnt get back up.... 😭☹️😢

😭 Definitley sad though, I thought it was going to make it... :(
Don't feel bad and don't blame yourself.

Chicks that have problems hatching often have problems for reasons. I did mention that it might not make it when you first posted about it because, in my experience, they often don't. Sometimes they do. Those are ones to celebrate, but this one didn't. It wasn't your fault: there was something wrong with the poor thing.

Hatching quail is not for the faint of heart I’ve found!! I have cried over so many quail! I’m now all stressed out cuz a couple of my hens have bumblefoot. The last one I tried to care for on my own died in my hands from panic I’m guessing. So I’m all stressed out I’ll lose another one, so I’m taking them to the vet tomorrow. Will cost way more than I should be paying but I don’t want to be the reason another one dies :-( both of my Celadon hens are super sweet birds!

Nor is owning chickens. I do find loosing a chicken a LOT harder though. All in all, quail are JUST quail. I would be sad if my favorite quails die, but I am equally thankful for the opportunities I have. Its not something everyone can have, to see life and death. Its never easy! But its never unbearable!

I am thinking it may have been a genetic issue. Since we bred our own birds that all came from the same buyer, there is potential that the eggs came from the same birds. So I am looking to adding new blood in the flock....Myshire seems to have a great reputation....

Yeah I’m WAY more attached to my chickens!! But I only have 6 at the moment and they’ve been so much less stressful to own haha. I love them all but definitely more attached to the chickens. I have a few favorite quail but like you said, they’re quail :) Hopefully infusing new blood helps in the future!

Thanks! I dont know much about quail so I am not sure if its because of not enough variety in the strains.
