➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Probably half of my 4 week old boys are crowing. 18 female and 26 male from that hatch. I weighed all the males, none of my falb fees are in the top third. I think overall they are outweighing the previous hatch, though.

Twenty-six males? I guess you'll have to invite the family over for dinner.

As for size, I notice chicks grow at weird spurts. Maybe the falb fee roos will catch up to the others.

Maybe, some of them do have bands - I banded the heavier half at 12 days, a few have slipped so now some unbanded outweigh some banded ones, but of the biggest 3, one was male and he's still the biggest male.

I'm having quail for dinner tomorrow. Not my own. I wasn't up to hatching birds eight weeks ago so I asked a quail-raising friend for some of his roos. Our other visiting friends have been asking what quail tastes like (I didn't have the heart to give the stock answer of "like chicken") so I'm importing some.

I think I'll do a dish of "coq au vin" cooked together with rice. Or maybe a paella, but I don't have saffron in my pantry. . .
