➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

That’s what I thought. I can tell mature bobs apart pretty well. Are they like ducks in that males are generally bigger than females? I like to sit and watch them just so I can learn more about their behaviors. The little ones are starting to dig down in the pine shavings sending chips flying everywhere. It funny to watch. I didn’t see my other batch do that. So it’s a cool first for me.
Not really, sometimes I have hens that are larger than my cock birds. You'll notice the change when their head feathers start coming in, gray at first then changing to the buff color of the females and the black and white of the males....body plumage will look the same for both male and female.
Post a pic anyway, if you don't mind, I'd like to take a 'gander' at them!

No babies yet but today is hatch day

YAYYY! :wee Who else has them in the 'bator? @BantyChooks ? when are yours due?

Mine are at that age where if you stare at them intensely they get freaked out and start chain reaction popcorning all about the cage. Big guys are hitting the ceiling on the soft crate now occasionally. I love this thing for juvies!

Where is their dirt box?

Today is day 5 for my batch of 24...just candled each one and only 3 are clear. Going to leave them in until day 10 or later to see if they might be late developers. Since this is my first hatch, is it normal for some eggs to have more dark mass inside than others (I see development in both types but, for example, one may appear to have 60% darkness inside where another may only appear to be 30%)?

Candled again a couple days ago (day 7) and 13 are viable, 2 are too dark/speckled to see anything, and 9 appear to be infertile. Keeping my fingers crossed that the 13 viable eggs make it to (and beyond) hatch!
