65% is high enough, don't go above 70% or your inviting problems.Spam me with your best ideas to raise the humidity in my incubator...today is day 14 and I removed the turner and added two soaked washcloths, two plastic dishes with warm water, and filled all of the trays with warm water...that was a few hours ago and I cannot get it above 65% (on a calibrated hygrometer...incubator hygrometer is reading even lower).
7 turkey, 3 button quail, 28 coturnix, and started with 39 chicken eggs. Down to 38 since I dropped one while candling last night. Thankfully it was not fertile so I didn't kill it. I will be candling again in a few days and toss the rest of the infertile eggs.. How many total eggs are set?
It won't hurt them but I would start out with a tiny piece to see if they will eat it. I never tried feeding salmon to any of my birds. I believe a complete and balanced feed is better than throwing 'treats' out for them to eat. Other than a little scratch in the winter months and BOSS, mine get their balance feed and that is all, their enclosures are planted so they get adequate greens, too!Okay, I have a question, dont laugh at me.
Can quail have salmon? Do they like it or will they waste it? I got a gorgeous huge slab of sockeye on major sale partially as a treat for the dog and cats and now I'm debating giving the birds a nibble. We were supposed to feed my parrot things like that occasionally.
Googling simply returned many fancy dog food products containing both.![]()
I am setting eggs again asapChicks be gettin' reserved like hotcakes.

As long as they are dry, and no drafts on them they will do fine in cold temps. When it's really cold I give mine some scratch just before they go to roost, provides some energy for them to burn during the cold night and helps keep their core body temperature up.I know, right? No one here is offering quail... I mean nobody on Craigās List that Iāve seen in the whole five state region. Maybe I *should* make starting quail a priority. Even if for no other reason than to provide a service to the community. Theyāre becoming popular I think, with the homesteading movement.
Iāll most likely have to order any quail I get as eggs. From KC Quail I suppose. I think theyāre nearest to me. Only I donāt even have an incubator yet and Iāve never hatched anything or even watched anything hatch (except on YouTube). I have to build a turkey/goose/morechickens shelter for next winter. Maybe I could put the quail cages in there too, on the back wall.
I worry though, with the winter weāre having... Iām not sure whether quail are up for -24 degree nights, too many in a row. I very much hope this will NOT happen again in my lifetime...
