➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

so it looks like I am going to have to order gamebird feed in 50# bags because the $6 5lb bag mannapro costs are getting way out of hand!! the brands I’ve looked at are Nutrena, Purina, and Mazuri $19-24 per 50#. any preferences between those 3 or a different one I should look for?? (my flock is currently consuming 50 lbs meatbird, 5 lbs gamebird, and 15+/- lbs scratch per week)

I am a freak for the purina gamebird feed. I start them on the purina startena 30% and at 4-6 weeks start mixing in the 19% to start bringing the protein closer to 25%. My birds are fat and tend to start laying at 6-7 weeks with this method.

Wanna send some of that snow to my house? ;) My kids would LOVE to have serious snow like that. We freeze our buns off all winter, but don’t get much snow. Silly mountain microclimates. My parents 20 miles away get a foot for every 2” we get. :p
Grass is always greener, right? :)

The only incubation app I found that works on iPhone isn’t very good, alas. They call the setting day “1” instead of “0”, and it says today is hatch day-but that should be tomorrow! I about had a heart attack when I opened it this evening and saw that.
All is quiet in the incubator today. Humidity still hovering around 55ish. I’m so nervous!!!:fl

yes, if it’s hatchabatch, it is auto day behind. I always manually enter set date 24hrs ahead and then make a note of actual set date/time for manual recalculation. it’s part of the learning curve! :old

We finally got dug out! I think the driveway is wide enough for our evil SUV. If not, we can probably slide between the icy walls. ;) We actually do own a small, much more virtuous car, but it’s a one season car... summer, if it’s not too wet. :p Anyway, if we wanted to, we could now officially go somewhere. :wee
You have been snowed in?
I bet now that you can go somewhere you don't need to right?

Oh no! Maybe it won’t be too bad. My brother (about an hour’s drive away) missed all this. Apparently they were in Colorado Springs for the big storm. They came home to a bit of a dusting and a clear driveway, so go figure. Mama always did love him more. ;)

This is good to know. I used the Purina Turkey Startena (Game bird) since it was all my local guy had unmedicated. Mixing with the chicken feed at 8 weeks. Half n half gets close to 24%. No complaints so far. No eggs yet either. :(

$32 a 50# bag is shocking compared to the $13 a 50# for the chicken feed.

Quail pens in the chicken yard. Chicken feed usage dropped. I'm not surprised. Messy little buggers.:)

Have you seen my Google sheet yet?
There is a game bird tab of all the gamebird feeds I could find.
Each type has a direct link (in the name of the feed) to the manufactures website.
