It’s sad killing them. I didn’t think they’d take so long to die. (I’m bleeding them. My book says that’s best but I’m not sure whether it’s really that much better results-wise than cutting off the heads and having it done so far as the bird knows... maybe not enough that anyone but a foodie would notice?)

I decapitate (or do CD) and both achieve satisfactory bleeds. The broth is quite a bit darker than that from storebought CX, but the meat still tastes and looks fine.
I haven't tried bleeding them out. I don't trust my knives to be sharp enough.

Everyone except Kiki, how long can I leave the solo in? Almost dry after 8 hours. Another won't be dry before tonight. Pulling 2 tomorrow before work is silly.

Is this where I put a lid of water and bit of food in the incubator to make a mess? Until tomorrow night? Without risking the chicky poo? Don't want anymore shrink wrapped.

Kiki - don't want to put the single in the brooder solo. It is screaming a lot. The others are answering, but still. Screaming.

i have been leaving mine to 24 +/- hour mark and pulling all fluffies at that point so i guess it depends on how late you will be working whether you pull first couple before or wait until after work

I had a hatch of chicken chicks that screamed regardless of how many were in there, until I put them in the brooder. Since it was overnight, and Duckling was still occasionally waking at night, I would put them in the brooder wet as they woke me. I needed sleep, and they were somehow happier.

Not black, to answer the earlier question, but quite a bit darker than the others that I've hatched. Since Batches #1 & 2 have white feathers, could they be lighter tan?
