Tape or bend the edges to keep a piece of hardware cloth over it.

That was the "mesh" I was thinking of but couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called.

It's a little glass Pyrex bowl.
How about I cut a whole bunch of holes in it's lid...and put the lid on....if I decide to leave tomorrow?
That should still let the water out right?

I guess that could work but I don't know if maybe the lid would trap in some of the humidity. You could always test it and see.

Still absorbing for sure, I could see a lot of liquid in the egg when it was pushing. Hopefully the others are progressing well too!

You can also take a kitchen sponge and cut it into a bunch of dice-sized cubes and put them in the water dish. As much water as in that dish will be in the sponges, and it won't hurt them if they get into it. That's what I did with my extra dish of water, and it worked well. I came in to find one little chick actually sleeping on top of the pile.

This is what I did earlier.

I just use sponges soaked, without a bowl. If i need a bowl to keep them fully wet during dryer days, I cut the sponge exactly the size of the bowl and soak it.
