➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

How do you get a picture of 9 hatchlings?
Put them in a smaller box.

Kiki - it was clean when I stuck them in there. They were waiting for a fresh spot to poo!

couldn’t wait any longer.....set my eggs! my order was for 55+ eggs....I just set 68!!! 56 in the new and 12 in the old. I slightly cracked 1 from each batch during labeling and removal from foam packing. I painted 1 with fingernail polish and the other with superglue. I did not appear to break the membrane on either so will see how those 2 do.

I found this online and it's been helpful in sexing my birds. I'm certain about 4 males and I've decided on a wild type so I can keep mixed color girls.

That's brilliant, I'm saving it and I think it should be sticki-ed stomewhere for easy reference.

My only criticism is that *some* varieties of golden lack that distinctive head color, so it's not always foolproof.

Also, I think by cinnamon they mean roux dilute? I've seen it called fawn and cinnamon, which gets confusing because those are used for other colors too :idunno

I know, there's a lot of conflicting information out there. I'm thinking about writing an article after my research is done, this is going to be a project. I

Good luck :lau I think an article or new sticky on colors would be great but I had the idea I was going to redo the color calculator (hubby is programmer) when I first got going and the more I learned the more I realized how impossible that was without about a decade of concerted genetics study of a few of the gene locus. There are at least a half dozen unknown modifiers I've identified have to exist even on top of the lesser-known color genes but no one has a clue what they are or how they are inherited.

Since we're on the topic, this compilation has been invaluable to me when looking at color genetics. There is some conflicting or missing information in it, I wish it had more descriptions, but it's the most complete resource I've found. If you're interested, definitely spend time reading all the various 1-4 color gene studies they've done on coturnix too, only a google away.
