āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

@BullChick you should know that it takes about 3 quail eggs to equal 1 large chicken egg. The eggs have a different flavor, slightly gameish and earthy.
I can't tell the difference between the chicken and quail eggs. Both delightful when fresh out of the bird. However, I do eat them smothered in onions and peppers. Salt to taste (lightly).

Tabasco occasionally. Never ketchup. Fresh tomatoes are good.

Another note. While I backed off of the high protein chick starter quickly because of the stench with the CX, the quail babies are thriving on 30%. They are processing the 30% like no one's business. Will see how long this continues. Normal, healthy poops. Still planning on blending this down. $22/50# is kinda rich. The 18% chick grower the chickens get is $13.50/50#.

My intention is first for eggs to bake with while waiting for the chicks to begin mid- June, or the others whenever they feel like it (one hen and three duck hens). Then I will be using the hot/jalapeƱo pickled egg brine.
I don’t like duck eggs, but keep trying to. Hopefully, quail aren’t as bad.

I’m eating at least one quail because I don’t think it’s okay for me to raise a bird, and still say I’ve never had that kind of meat. I’m hoping it’s good to me, and something I can look forward to.

Does everyone have the cute little quail egg scissors?

Really? Where are you seeing that? I thought TSC had very limited times of having chicks in house. Atwoods in Greenville has them more often but still bigger breaks Dec 12 to Jan 12. I don't think I"ve ever seen chicks at Gebo's.
Wow, they still have Gebo's? Back when I was a kid it was called Blacklands, went to school with the kid who's dad started it.
It was in the south part of McKinney, at the intersection of Hwy 5 and Business 5. They moved it out to Hwy 21 and Hwy 75 in late 1979...after it was sold out to Gebo's. They became way higher after Gebo's took over.
